I reload but would like to have a couple boxes of factory ammo around. My question is what factory ammo works for deer and what works for black bear? The .44 is a sweet camp gun and I would like to have it around up north, any body ever shoot a black bear with factory loads?

P.s. The reason I want factory loads is a) I'm lazy sometimes and b) I could get called on short notice and need ammo pronto.

A couple of years ago I nailed a very large black bear with my Marlin '94 and 325gr. WFN GC(M.T. Chambers). Bullet broke both shoulders and exited, bear got sick and died right now. I was using 20.0grs. of H-110, a load I have used ever since.

Not out of a marlin, but my deer/bb gun has been a Ruger .44 for years. I shoot Winchester white-box 240 JSP's exclusively as they are freaky accurate out of that rifle (1" @ 100 :D) and I can attest to their effectiveness. In addition to deer, I have taken 4 B. bears from 15-119yards, and all were one-shot kills. The last one was running at me, and I hit it "a little" high...removed 18" of it's spine......

The Winchester white box is a favored load already so pickin up anothe few boxes won't be a problem. The .44 Mag is an amazingly versatile camp gun with .44 specials for grouse and .44 mag for other less friendly critters.
