I just picked up a 270WSM last week. I also picked up some 130gr Partitions last night and have some H4831SC on hand so will start with that. I want to get a load that will shot well and be good for both deer and moose. Wondering what you guys have success with?

Regards

Brian

For 130s I use 68 grains of old style IMR7828 and a 130 grain Ballistic-tip for 3400 fps. No deer or coyote has asked for a refund yet. Mine's a little Kimber Montana and I routinely shoot it out to 650. That range is more about running out of scope than running out of cartridge. I tried 130 Partitions in it and they don't shoot nearly as well, nor are they close to the same POI. Definitely minute of moose, but its hard to take when you know the rifle is capable of much better. I'd like to find some 130 Accubonds someday and give those whirl.

I found some 160 Partitions awhile back and can get 3000 fps with a full charge of Retumbo. A nice thing about that load is with the rifle sighted for 300 yards with the 130 load, this one nestles in rather nice at 200. Although I haven't shot anything with that load at all, I'd have no problem using it for anything I'd use a 160 grain 7mm on. That's practically everything.

There was some 160gr Partitions there but I thought I would start with the 130's. I wouldn't mind tracking down some accubond long rangers to see how they shoot. Would you use 130 partitions on moose or move up to the 160's. I was loading 140's in my 260 so I figured 10gr less with a lot more speed would be fine.

FYI my rifle is a Win M70 extreme weather

I wouldn't have any problem with 130 partitions for moose, but bear in mind that I didn't have any problem with regular cup and core 130s on moose out of a .270 Win either. If they would have shot better I'd be using them, and your rifle may just love them. Oh well, I have three other 270s to try them in.

I ran 130 Accubond's and IMR4831, managed 3340, with long long cases life(8-10 loadings)

I also worked loads for a buddies rifle. 130 Interbond's and IMR7828, were clocking out at 3330.

Right now your biggest hurdle will be finding a selection of components.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the responses gents. I'm going to make a call and see if my local powder guys has anything. As for components the only thing left I need to find is brass. This seems to be the hardest part!!!!!

I load 130 grain accubonds on top of IMR 4350 (61 or 62 grains as I recall, about 1 grain under the Nosler 6 max load) for my son's Tikka T3 lite.
He drops deer like they were struck by a lightning bolt. Despite having far too many other rifles, I recently picked up a Sako 75 in this caliber.......need to work up a load for that.
Enjoy!
