Looking to pick up a treestand... mostly for bowhunting, but I am sure it will see some rifle/shotgun hunting as well.

Any brands you guys recommend? Or recommend I stay away from?

A friend is selling a lightly used Lone Wolf climber stand.... only because his ass is too boney and he wanted a hammock style seat. I have only found one review on the Alpha Climber by Lone Wolf and it was very favourable.

Any suggestion.... for a new hunter on a budget who doesn't want to fall out of a tree? lol ;):D

Thanks

I own about 8 lone wolfs. Mostly the hang on but one climber. IMOA they are the only one to own. I know what your buddy talks about though. They are hard on the butt muscle. I have had mine since 1994 and they still work as good as the day I bought them. Very reliable and noise free with the forged platform. No welds or expanded metal crap Buy it if you can

Thanks for the reply.... what do you think is a good price for it considering it is lightly used.... is $220 too high or is it fair?

Are these much better than the Gorilla treestands at Cdn Tire?

Thanks

Forget Gorrilla they are cheap, noisy and not comfy. Ive owned a Gorrilla and Lone Wolf and the Lone Wolf is by far the best hang on tree stand on the market. Lone Wolf have the offset bracket, it adjusts for lean on trees, is solid metal with zero noise and is still light.
I was actually told to get one by Saskhunter and he wasnt BSing when there is no better.

We've had good luck with the 16' ladderstands. I'd name a make or model but I'm pretty sure they're all made in the same factory in China. They're quiet, light, durable and safe. If you keep an eye out they go on sale for $60US or around $100CDN.

I have a summit climber that I really like. It's aluminum, so it is relatively light. A buddy has a steel climber that I borrowed once, man was that thing heavy and noisy. Most importantly though, get a good harness, to many stories of guys getting excited when they see that big buck, and fall out of the stand.

Yep bought one at Bass Pro a couple yrs ago for like $70. cdn :)
15' to the bottom of the seat & works very slick.
Once tied down properly is secure, quiet, & comfortable (with boat cushion)

Depending on where in Ontario you are hunting, you may find it difficult to find a tree you can use a climbing stand on without excessive branch trimming. I prefer the hang on style as I find them very easy to put up and you don't need to find the perfect tree like with a climber. I have 2 of the baby Gorilla stands from Canadian tire, no noise or durability issues with them and lightweight if you need to pack it in and back out with you, but they are small and not very comfortable when sitting 4hrs or more. The Lonewolf hang-ons mentioned above are quite a bit larger than the baby Gorilla, but they weigh about the same. It's probably what I'll be parking my butt in next season.

Well I tried out the lonewolf today.... wow treestands are such a cool invention... and the lonewolf really is nice, really solid, light, and totally silent. Thanks very much for all your input guys... now I just have to find who has the lonewolf cheapest... :p

Anyone know who has the best prices?

As far as climbing tree stands go, the only manufacturer to consider is Lone Wolf (either the Alph Hand Climber or the Sit 'n' Climb). Every other brand of climber is a noisy mechanical monster by comparison.

I have a climber I bought a few years ago, a Grand Slam Supreme, model 2500MS made by API Outdoors. It doesn't have all the comforts and frills as the one slverado7 uses:p but it does work really well. In line with what 7.62mm stated, you can't stress enough the aspect of a good safety harness.

You can buy lone wolfs right from the manufacturer. They have a website, google it. I had the pleasure of having andre and his wife come and hunt bear with me in sask and his wife arrowed a huge black and he actually had it full mounted, 425lbs if I remember correctly. Anyway they are really nice people and don't hesitate to call them and order directly.

Thanks saskhunter.... I contacted them directly, they are looking into the shipping cost. Did you order yours from them? If so do you remember the approximate shipping cost?

Andre and his wife brought them up here for me on the spring bear hunt, not sure what shipping would be but am sure it won't be much. I like the hand climber's cause they are faster up the tree and less noise than the sit and climb. It will work fine for you for rifle too, i always use a shooting stick in them if I hunt rifle. I think they are the best
