what do you preffer.. extraction or ejection?

All my current guns have ejectors. Not that it matters because with the o/u and sxs I intercept the hulls coming out of the breach because I reload. I'd be just as happy with extractors.

Among the best deals on sxs guns are English-made (usually from Birmingham) boxlock non-ejectors. They frequently go for very good prices, much cheaper than lesser guns with ejectors.

I was asking more about a field gun, like a coachgun or a cheap sxs, o/u.
I'd never have the heart to take an English double in the bush. I don't mean upland hunting. I mean back-up and ocasional grouse-buster that gets beaten up most likely than not.

what would you rather have on one of these?

For hunting birds while walking, eg. pheasant, extractors are all that are required, and do not leave empty hulls littering the field. For shooting birds from a fixed position, where the shots are coming fast, ejectors are preferable. Unless, of course, you have a pair of guns and a personal loader in which case it doesn't matter.

I have guns with both. I have come to prefer extractors. I rarely hunt from a fixed postion so reloading speed does matter to me. If I were shooting doves in South America I might want ejectors, but then if I were there I would have a matched pair and a loader.

For a beater gun, extractors never go out of time.

thank you gentlemen,
I never handled one with ejectors and thought it might bring some tremenduos advantage, but if not, I doubt I'll spring for one.
Not a good probability that I will ever afford to buy one that has both settings.

For a cost efficient shotgun, the Baikal O/U offers both capabalities......

Quote from Baikal website......

Model IZH-27EM:
Selective ejector removes the spent shells only. The owner can switch the action into extractor’s mode (or disable ejectors) in field without stripping the gun or special tools. The gun is indispensable for various game-shooting, whenever the quick reloading is required. Unquote
