What do you store/how do you store, your scrap lead?

I smelt some when ever I get an hour or two...I get work done while I am waiting for the lead to melt.

There really is a lot of wasted space in those pails....this is what 200lbs looks like in an electrical cabinet

I have 4 65lb ingots and that may be the way to go....get a bread pan and make manageable huge ingots.
I'm just going to slide those under the work bench until me or my partner in crime needs them

I had about 10 5 gallon pails full sitting beside my garage. When I had to move them (divorce) all but one shattered upon lifting them. I guess U.V. rays broke them down. The last time I weighed a full gallon pail it was 153 lbs.

I use old cattle mineral tubs behind the shed, after a year or two the plastic splits along the sides and gives you good drainage! I always keep a 5 gallon bucket full in the shop where they stay dry until I use them.

I am in favor of creating ingots immediately. I use small loaf pans from Princess Auto. They come out about 10 lbs. Easy to move. Easy to store. And they fit in the 20 LB melting pot.

I cleaned about 800 lbs of pure, range recovery, wheel weight, and linotype over a two day period.

Now I just have about 400 lbs more then I can go back to the club for more range recovery.

nw mb.

That is a very smart idea. I may try it with my 10lb'ers just to see what it is like. Only 5 to a box but very cool idea.

thanks! it really makes it easier to handle and i do give away/trade for items (like more lead) so people know how much they are getting...and they get a nice box in the deal to boot! takes 10 3" nails per box...not gonna break the bank...you could use another configuration of box with your 10#ers...

...and WW make nice fishing jigs too! i sell mine for .25 each with a baked powder coat done in a designated, cheap toaster oven...got all my supplies here for cheap...http://www.luremaking.com/catalogue/

I have a 55 gallon drum of wheel weights any thing else has been melted down made into ingots and marks as to what alloy they are. for those interested I took a old BBQ propane tank cut the top off(filled with water first) and dished the bottom and then welded a black pipe nipple in the bottom for a elbow and a valve works well for bulk smelting. I used piece of steel channel cut into sections welded together with a piece of flat stock welded on the end to close it

What sort of valve did you use?
