Hello guys

I will probably have the chance to buy a S&W model 29-2 from a friend but have no clue the value of it and I don't want to insult him by a lowball offer so I'm turning to you guys my valuable sources of knowledge.

This is the description of the gun.

Smith Wesson Mod: 29-2 with a 8 inch 1/2 barrel original wood grip on it.

44 magnum caliber.

Serial number is N400506 I know the S series are more valuable.

The gun is in immaculate condition always store in a gun case with a silicone base cloth wrapping it.

So there it is let me know what you think guys.

I bought the same one, a couple of years ago - $800. It also looked like new - few rounds through it. It don't think that offering him 8 would insult him. If he's a good friend, I would expect he'd be ammenable to giving you a decent price on it.

I would like to recommend that you go to a Range that rents handguns, and actually fire some 44 Magnum rounds before actually buying a 44 Magnum handgun.

I was offered a great deal on a brand new, and unfired 44, which I bought. I didn't fire it right away, and when I was at my Range with another firearm, I decided to use one of the Range's 44's ... (rental of the 44 was included in my Day Pass.) I fired 2 rounds before realizing that this was "way too much" gun for me. Just 2 rounds aggravated the Arthritis in my elbow and wrist joints. Luckily, I was able to sell my unfired 44 for what I paid for it.

My advise is to try one before you buy one.

Lol but then how is anyone supposed to get a good deal on a very low round count .500 magnum revolver and half a box of ammo?

Good advice, but not all ammo feels the same. I have a couple (or so) .44 Rem Mags - S&W, DW, Ruger and a DE. If I do my re-loads using close to maximum recommended powder loads, with W296, or H110 - then you definitely get substantial recoil. However, if I reload with a faster powder and use the recommended powder loads - something like Longshot - the recoil is considerably less. Feels like half - don't know if it actually is - but it feels like it.

'Course, if one reloads there's no need to punish one's self with full house factory loads.

The .44 Mag can be loaded down with some nice 240 gr lead SWC target loads going out at about 850 - 900 fps.

Very accurate & pleasant to shoot as well. :cool:

This, plus you can shoot .44 Specials out of it until the cows comes home. Just don’t feed it a steady diet of full magnum loads, because if you do, good luck finding a Murray Charlton to retime the gun because you didn’t listen to him all those years ago:redface: that and having him say I told you go was fun too:p
