What do you think is the most durable/reliable rifle?

If you wanted to buy or build a rifle for whatever your uses would be, what would it be? Cartridge isn't important, rather the rifle itself. Somthing you know you can take to the arctic and not worry about it freezing or to the rainforests and not worry about the thing rotting. What would you choose?

Single shot falling block action would be the strongest.

I like this one too...

An Argentine, FN or VZ Mauser with the original two stage trigger and cocking piece safety, a banded ramp front sight, and any of the excellent aperture sights mounted on the receiver bridge, would fulfill all the mentioned parameters.

I'd definately have to say...My old stainless Browning 270. I got it in 1987(8)....it's been knocked down, dropped down, kicked down, slid down a slippery rock (scratches still in the barrel)....hunted in -35 with the wind chill.....and plus 30 c for black bears....under water in a NFLD Moose hunt...I've never, ever, EVER ..had one single issue with it!!
Actually, it still has the original Stainless 3-9x40 Burris Sig series scope on it too!...some of the krinkle finish is coming off the original painted wooden stock(1st prod run never got the synthetics done in time)...but I can look at that rifle and each mark reminds me of a hunt, good or bad...somewhere, sometime. Great gun, flawless performance for over 24 years of service.

Like a lot of others here, I'd have to go with a Mauser '98 or derivative, like the Springfield '03 or the P-14/M-1917, or any of the Euro Mausers.
Of course the Mosins have certainly proven themselves in sightly cooler weather (IE Finland) and the warmer places too, like VietNam.

Of course if I was only looking at something of moderate power for medium ranges, I'd have to look really hard at the AK family. Especially the Valmet made ones.

And if I didn't have to carry it, a liquid-cooled Vickers. I obviously can not vouch for the veracity of the claim; but I read that during WW1 there was at least one Vickers that fired a 24 hour long continuous burst. At 500 rounds per minute, that's about 30,000 rounds per hour.

AK-47, all-around, versatile, global beater rifle

How about this as a durable, no-frills, rugged option for most, if not all, conditions around the world:
