What do you think of the $75 SKS

Just an update:

Received my Russian SKS from tradex today, in phenomenal shape, all matching numbers, gorgeous dark wood chrome lined bore (as requested). Covered in what appears to be 10 lbs of grease. I have a fun day ahead of me.

The box of ammo is what it is, a big box of happiness.

I'm so excited to get this thing to the range. Will post pictures when I get it all cleaned up.

Oh man....don't get me so excited! My Tradex Russian has been in Calgary since yesterday but UPS has not gotten around to swinging by my house.

Buy as many as you can. Chinese or Russian it doesn't matter. Take them to the range and keep the one that shoots the best with the surplus ammo.

I gotta say thats the only complaint i had about mine....the high amount of grease! it was funny they sent me a grease bottle that was empty lol i tried shooting it with all the grease on it but it was only shooting one shot at a time so i had to resort to cleaning it

You loaded ammo in your sks and actually fired it full of cosmo?
Barrel, Bolt ass, bolt carrier and gas tube/piston loaded full of grease?
For real?

I can't imagine how filthy it must have been shooting without a proper clean, I just took my stock out of the oven, it was pissing cosmoline for almost 2 hours.

I did have a minor hiccup, I initially tried to steam the cosmoline out of the stock and had a foggy part. I cleaned it up with some rubbing alcohol, but now that spot is a bit lighter than the rest of the stock.

About to try and put this thing back together *fingers crossed*

:eek:It's very dangerous to do that! You are lucky not to get hurt ... The resistance of the grease in the barrel when you shot it enough to make it explode!

Dude...

This is "canada", with a liberal designed "firearms safety course". That course is taught by people that are certified by "liberal appointed civil servants". Also they make money hosting these "firearms safety courses". Really what do you expect? Go spend a few gun shows behind a table...you will find a lot of people like the one you quoted.

Should the individual research just a tiny little bit on how a SKS operates, and how the very, very basic field stripping is done? Even on this very site? Oh hell no!! That would require a tiny bit of effort.

The high amount of grease...lets see...it is made of steel...it came on a slow boat from China or Ukraine...

I truly am at a loss for words, I know how much cosmo was in and all over my sks when it came.
I would never think of firing a round through it like that.........I was nervous with the first couple after it was stripped and cleaned. I wasnt sure if I had the pin clean enough!

I hope you pay attention to the local fliers. I would suggest a 120V AC powered chop saw? Or maybe a link to a Red Forman picture?

So I messed up my re-assembly, got it all put back together, turns out I forgot the Op-rod/spring...

When I go take apart the gas system now the gas tube won't come off!
