What do you think of the new GSG MP40 22LR

A guy I work with had shot one this past weekend; he said it was very accurate. His definition of accurate and mine are two different things though. He also said it was stupid heavy.
 
Absolutely love it. Ended up picking up a second one recently that I'm going to keep unfired.

I've going through about 500 rounds so far and no issues at all with mini mags.

What's with the weird barrel shroud at the muzzle? Holds the front sight on too. Pretty hard to set it up for 1/2x28 stuff, barrel too small, shroud too close to 1/2" OD. Will have to get a shop to make a new shroud and probably turn down the end of the barrel a bit to make room for the 1/2" threads.

**Note: I got an e-mail back from GSG, the thread on the barrel shroud is M16 x 1 RH, nice!! Already have that tap so I should be able to make my own barrel shroud with a 1/2" x 28TPI end.

Sucks I can't cut the barrel length down to where the front sight is (would be under 26" OAL when folded).

My first impression is it is well built and looks great. I shot a real one full auto last month in Virginia and this .22 impresses me for what it is.
 
GSG stuff feels heavy because they cast the larger parts out of Zamac, but they are not built to last. There are many small dinky fragile moving parts in all their guns that do not stand up to steady use, barrels are steel liners in a Zamac casting, literally everything they do is on the cheap.
They look cool, feel solid because they are heavy, and you might have some fun with one, just don't expect it to last forever.
 
The MP 40 is one of the most iconic guns ever made...so one could be forgiven for pouncing on a 22LR version. :) However, I've only held one...and based on what I see for the price, it's a hard pass for me. Mostly a function of price, and of the amount of free time/good weather I'm not getting in recent years. lol When the sun is shining and I have the time..there is no chance I'd choose one of these over an accurate bolt gun.

Were time/$ no issue, I'd own one for sure.
 
It's a fun gun to shoot. As said above it's an iconic piece.
It's not intended to be an accurate squirrel/gopher getter, it's meant to put rounds downrange quickly.
The mags are decent quality and with the trigger lever mod, it can shoot very very quickly. I have had no complaints or malfunctions in over 2K rounds.
 
It's neat, but it might be a niche that the the Umarex Legends MP40 BB gun fills better (having FA and being less than half the price). The price of the GSG MP40 is high enough that there too many other interesting .22s that I would get ahead of it

I absolutely love mine, everyone who shoots it cant stop talking about it, it is heavy, but i feel so german shooting it!!!!

never a ftf no jams, just a neat rifle
 
I bought one too. Fun to shoot. More fun that the various 10/22s I owned.

It's a great range toy. Or can plinker.

Don't expect amazing accuracy... though to be honest I never tested it for accuracy... but do expect a lot of fun.
