Mods, I couldn't decide what forum to put this in, but as it reguards my AR I thought that it'd be appropriate. (move it if you'd like)

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out what to use as a carrying case for my 14.5" AR. Right now I have a normal rifle carrying case that I use, but as you know the Ars are a bit higher than a normal rifle and I have to take it down everytime I want to go to the range. I was thinking about contacting Dewalt and getting the largest cases they have for their power tools and gutting it and putting down some foam (As I use this method for Handguns (the dewalt cases are tough)).

Is there any thing else you guys are using?

Thanks

Just a standard CTC gun case.
Lots of room in there for mags and junk

I remember a fellow here has the case of cases with a spare upper, optics and mags all fitted in it,it was quite impressive

A pelican 1700 series case is nice. You can customize the interior for whatever you want to put in it. they are around the $250, good quality and lifetime warranty. I've got a 1750 case comming for my HK SL8. Went with a bigger case so I could fit extra mags, bipod and accessories in the case with the gun.

Here is a 1500 series I use for work:

There are all kinds of cases, hard and soft, that an AR will go in with no fuss. Unless you're flying by commercial air, any case/container will do nicely. Your rifle should fit into a soft case for a scoped rifle easily without taking it apart.

The cheapo $20 plastic cases with foam lining. I just can't justify spending more on a case than I would on a stripped lower.
For my "taller" guns I had to splurge on a $40 case meant to hold 2 rifles.

I use one of Marstar's shorty cases for my 16" bbl'd AR. I'm very happy with it. It's well made use heavy duty codura nylon and a HD zipper. It sells for a very reasonable price ($39.45). For longer bbl'd AR's, use one of the larger cases. They have 3 sizes, 38", 42" and 48".

My vote goes to the Pelican 1700 case. It'll handle a 14.5" carbine easily, and most other black rifles too.

Hey nice Pelican Cases. I'd really like to store my Ar in something like that, but they're a little out of my price range at the moment. I contacted Dewalts customer service center and was told that I can get cases separatly. I just have to contact a Service Dealer. It'll be a big job as I'd have to cut the guts out of it (which is a pain, but I have the time) then buy some black foam. I'll post pics of the smaller on that I've gutted later.

One item of note....it's a habit of mine...when I cut in foam for a rifle, I make sure that the scope is on the side pointing away from the hinges of the case....that way if it's set down hard, or bounced during transit, the weight does not rest on the scope...

One case and several sets of foam = ~$300
4 black guns and several sets of optics = ~$10,000
$300 is pretty cheap insurance.

I currently have the one Pelican and two Starlights (long and short), and cheaper stuff for the milsurp junk. I much perfer the Pelicans over the Starlights.

Those were just set in for the photos, they get turned 180 and travel 'right side up' -but good eye!;)

Hardigg Stormcase M3100. Note the 1 piece 'O' ring in the lid.

Excellent, waterproof - even when submerged - bouyant enough to float me and the gear inside. Don't ask how I know.

I think I need one of those toolboxes, as living in an apartment I worry about my roommates' friends wandering around.

Very inconspicuous. And the lock doesn't look out of place.

After seeing the tool box types I started thinking. On our farm we have a tool box that would work perfect. It's a low profile tool box, designed esspecialy for large sockets (1' - 2.5'). Basically it had the same dimensions as a normal top tray for a normal tool box only 2.5X the size. I should look into one of those aswell. Thanks again guys for the examples.
