What do you use as a Carry Case?

el cheapo, browning double rifle case. abs plastic. it doubles as storage in the closet as well.

Here's my case. Can you guess what goes in each spot?

Here everything is in it's place (almost). I've left some space for the AA kit for the G17+mags, and a space under the DE for a box or something. Not sure what I'm gonna put there yet.

Here's a close-up of the DE.:D

The cheapo $20 plastic cases with foam lining. I just can't justify spending more on a case than I would on a stripped lower.
For my "taller" guns I had to splurge on a $40 case meant to hold 2 rifles.

I am of the same breed.
If I'm buying anymore pistols though, I'm going to buy a small toolbox and line it with foam. Someone on the board here did just that, and I think its a very cost effective, protective and stealthy way to transport your valuable commodities.

ok possibly a very dumb question but Ill ask anyway. What does it matter if your gun case is waterproof?

I really like the steel toolbox for storage for stealth and cost. Where do you get the foam for the inside?

Waterproof isn't a big priority for me personally.

However, Pelican cases happen to be waterproof. I'd wager that most people buy 'em because they're just about bombproof, and the waterproof part is just a bonus.

Depending on what I'm bringing to the range, I use a combination of:

-Large pelican case (2 normal rifles or one extra-kewl rifle with a big scope)

-medium sized Ukranian tire case

-medium sized soft sided "tactical" gun case

-lock box for pistols

I can understand wanting to protect your investments, but I could never justify spending $300 on a case. I would rather spend $300 on ammo or towards another rifle lol. What are you guys with the Pelican cases doing, throwing your gun into the back of your pick up filled with bricks and rocks from 25ft away ???? :p:p:p or are you worried its going to fall out of the back of the truck while on the highway at 70MPH.??

They are awesome cases, and I guess if you have the $$ to spare, then why not. But if money is a bit tight, I would go with making your own as posted by others here, or something much less expensive, unless your travelling on a 4 wheeler through the mountains and need that extra protection.

Then again, I might just be jealous I cannot afford to buy a nice Pelican :p

I can see your point. A Pelican case is a luxury for most shooters. Very few of us are taking our bang sticks on whitewater rafting trips.:)

On the other hand, when you've got a nice rifle that you've put a lot of time and effort into (especially if it's got expensive glass on it), it's nice to know that there's a little bit of protection for it if you have a moment of inattention and knock it off the tailgate of your truck.

some people want to protect their rifles and make sure that they remain sighted in. for guns that don't have scopes, i just use soft cases, they take up far less room and i can slide 3 or 4 under the rear seat of my truck, try that with a hard case.

Nothing but Pelican case, even for the accessries... Why not spend 300$ for a case that contain 600$ range finder, 300$ kestrel, 100$ peltor, 300$GPS and compass and 200$ spoting scope... And the same, 350$ case for 1500$+++ rifle... Hehe, even carry my laptop in pelican case... I just don't have enough money to buy 2 laptop or 2 rifle beacause of cheap case accident...

has anybody seen or used platt rifle cases?
they have one rifle case that interests me, it is the model 531111AH (53x11x11").

i have a tool box by them and it's alright, but my tackle box is more modular so i use it.

I made my own custom case...Baltic Birch Ply (super strong, dense, practically aircraft grade) which I joined dovetail style. The result is a bit heavy as I went with 10mm thick stock. I believe 8mm would be considerably lighter with all the strength needed. The lock is just a drawer type lock backset 3/4" which engages a piece of angle iron welded to the backing plate the handle bolts to. The finish is just some clear Watco oil - four coats. It took way too long to make as it was strictly a saw and chisel affair...

Sorry for the single lousy pic, but I've lost the charger for my camera so I'm stuck with this.

I transport my PE90 in a Yamaha trombone case.

Got the case for free from an aquaintance who works at a music shop, removed the previous filler, bought some 1" insulating foam and cut out what I needed to fit the rifle in, glued the three layers together, and then glued denim on top.

It locks, and is great camouflage... (Unless you pick it up, then the mass gives it away!).

Will try to post some pics ASAP.
