This question is similar to asking which club you use to play golf. The answer is all of them, depending on conditions (well, I've never used a 10 gauge for grouse, and if I have killed them with my visage, it was not because of "stunning good looks").

in years past, it's been a 22LR

now it'll probably be my 12 gauge

someday I'd like a O/U 12 or 20 gauge for upland birds

I guess I should have posted what I use too, I like the 12, with number 6.
As for the 20 gauge in the poll, sorry guys, was trying to do too many things at once.

When I'm grouse hunting "properly" - I use my .410.
When I'm just picking them off lease roads - .22/.17/.300...ad nauseum..

Usally .22lr/.22mag but if i see some while duck hunting i'll use the 12ga with the cheapo "100 round" loads. Just aim high.

started with a .22, now prefer to wingshoot them. typically a .410 or 20ga single shot. may start carrying my 12ga single shot, as grouse country is dear/bear country :D can always have a slug in the pocket.....

Used mostly my 22 rifle but this year will try my 12 gauge SxS with the barrels cut down to 20 inches for bears.I picked up a savage 410er adapter for it so that will be my first shot so if they make a run for it i can blast them with the 12 gauge barrel.
