What do YOU use to clean your SKS?

I have always just used the canadiantire standard crud cutter, then wipe downs (or scrub down) with shop towels, then standard gun oil from Canadian tire...
I ran out of crudcutter and my buddy said do what he does, SCALDING hot water, wipe down, Hot water, wipe down, blow dry, oil.

I used a hair dryer to MAKE SURE everything was dry... The idea of water just messed with my head.

What do you use to clean your sks ?!

I just use Hoppes solvent and gun oil, and have never had an issue in over the year now that I have been shooting corrosive Milsurp from my SKS.
As always YMMV.

I start with a wipedown of everything (except stock) using a Hoppes water-based cleaner, then no.9 solvent and oil. Pretty happy with the way my SKS comes clean though I haven't tried anything else.

Hot water is a non issue as it cleans out the corrosive salts. Because it's scalding hot, the parts dry out quickly. By the time I'm done cleaning the already almost-dry bore with #9, everything else is bone-dry and ready for reassembly.

M Pro7 cleaner, M Pro7 bore gel on the piston head, whatever oil I grab, Barricade on non-lubricated blued surfaces.

Boiled water through the barrel and all gas system parts. Scrub any other places that have powder residue on them. Run a bit of hoppes no 9 or elite through followed by G96 or Elite gun oil on all metal parts except the gas tube/piston. Few drops of oil in critical action areas and check the firing pin for issues before reassembly.

Another vote for Hoppe's #9 and G96 oil. Use it on my SKS, Yugo M-48 Mauser and vz58 carbine, all shooting corrosive surplus with nary a spot of rust.

I as well, use Hoppes #9 and G96. Same goes for all my guns...If things are gunked up then the brakekleen comes out first.

Seems to work for me... Compressed air to blow things out, is also a MUST for cleaning cguns IMHO. If you dont have a compressor, go pick up a small one for cheap... Saves time, and will get debris out of the smallest nooks...

+1 for Hoppes#9 and standard gun oil. It is designed for cleaning up after corrosive primers and the primer is what is corrosive.

I know everyone says no for wd40, but for my sks I love it. Cleans the crap off of everything pretty good and then keeps it from rusting.

How did you put water thru the barrel ? I saw images of funnel, but where to get one ?
