What does 12(6) refer to?

At various times, governments have decided to ban different types of firearms. On occasion those already in legal possession of those firearms are allowed to keep them by being "grandfathered". They will get a 12(X) designation. Anyone without the 12(x) designation already is prohibited from owning them.

In the case of 12(6) it applies to handguns with a barrel length of under 105mm, and .25 or .32 caliber.

People with the 12(6) can still legally buy and sell handguns that are prohibited under that designation.

It means if you try to buy a 12(6) gun and you don't have a license you'll have 12 seconds before black helicopters circle your house and the SWAT team arrests you if you live anywhere outside Ontario. If you live in Ontario and try to do the same the time drops to 6 seconds. ;)

Seriously though, those are prohibited guns that only people that are grandfathered from before 1995 can buy because of a barrel length shorter than 4".

In short, those are guns you'll NEVER be able to buy, legally.

Ok sure, if such a relative exists and is willing to do it.

In a similar vein, has anyone ever considered being adopted legally so you could take acquire a 12(x) license?
I have an acquaintance that has an FN in perfect condition and I've jokingly said to him a couple of times that since his kids aren't interested in guns that he should adopt me so that his rifle could be passed on. :D

Only 12(6) status can be inherited. FNs are either 12(2) "full auto", 12(3) "converted auto" or 12(5) "really scary".

I have a PAL with 12(6) as well as a couple of other 12(x) priveleges.

It pulsates with a soft green glow at night like kryptonite in the Superman movies.

When I explained to the lady friend that the license authorized me to possess a "short barrel" she thought I was referring to something else at first.;)
