interested in knowing what your experience has been with Coyotes and or Wolves in regards to still hunting, bush stalking and coming Across a Dog, What do they generally Do???

breifly meaning about the 10seconds after eye contact- period of time.

thanks alot

If they got you figured out you won't get another chance. Shoot now or never

Can almost tell by body language. If they turn on a dime and head down he's not stopping for another look.

If they turn and kind of trot away with head up he didn't like something, You likely have a chance to get him to stop for another look but I'm usually following him in the scope waiting for that second

In open fields, you can often get coyotes to stop and look back with aggressive yelping if they are not horribly terrified.
Two come in to your calling, you smoke one and the other takes off.
Loud and aggressive hurt dog yelping may get the 2nd to stop, mind it may be 300 yards away.
Run fast, run low, and don't look back, or you're going to get shot...:sniper:

Yeah ok Thanks for the replies.
i figured as much, pretty much what these Wild dogs are doing--- very tough game.

im really contemplating approaching them in a more Coyote style call in with some kind of predator caller remotely located--

there is potential with thermal gear but i havnt got it an friends are too far with them, need to sort of have it on call.
hearing the dogs most nights, they are living in the area but quite toey up close and relaxed from afar-- smart.

i had them come down a ridge to about 40m from me this morning but with the scrub i couldnt get a clear shot ndidnt want to educate them.... they smelt me an just bolted, no hesitation... bugger.

Most coyotes I have seen disappear pretty fast as others say. Depends how accustomed to people they are though and there will be a difference in behavior between a vancouver coyote and a interior coyote LOL
Wolves.... I used to work the night watch as a security guard on the stanley park grounds.... met many a brazen coyote on that job and the wolves were in a large outdoor enclosure. I had to walk the tracks of the stanley park train which took me right past those wolves every night. I walked close the fence.... once.... and never did that again LOL freaky animals and you know they would absolutely kill you and eat you if given the chance. The only other wolves I have been that close too was a whole pack inside 50 yards that surprised me and a friend in a draw on a mountainside where I hunt deer every year. The pack scattered but I was charged by 3 of them ...... I was in awe at the size of them and still am. Not an encounter I wish to repeat LOL

Stay clear of them and they’ll stay clear of you. Don’t try and attract them as they quickly loose fear of humans and this endangers both the animal, people and their pets.

If it's a "lone" wolf and he sees you first, you'll get a quick glimpse and he'll be g-o-n-e in a flash. He didn't get old by being stupid. A pack "alpha" is a different story. He's leading his pack to food. You may find yourself being stalked until he finds out what you are. When they figure out what you are, they usually quietly disappear. You may hear them, but, rarely will you see them. If you don't,you need to assume that you may be in serious trouble. Coyotes act the same most of the time, but, are bolder in numbers. They'll come into calls like a house on fire if they think there's an easy meal and nothing spooks them. If you let out a "woof" or a "chirp",they'll usually stop in their tracks allowing for a great shot, but, you have less than about 10 seconds.

Few years ago my buddy had 10 wolves silently surround him when he was calling for moose opening day.

We both had wolf tags and he said he didn't seen them until they were under 50 yards. Half behind him and half in front.

He didn't say it at the time, But he was scared for his life, That's why he didn't shoot. I couldn't believe it, We'd hunt coyotes all winter long and he's shot 100+over the years. That wolf pack had him shook up lol. I'll never forget him telling me the story, I'm like Where are they!?!?!

He said he was so stunned when he first seen him he couldn't shoot.

They look for hunter's movement / shooting. Keep still and hiden . Shoot fast. Most
winters I get 20 coyotes behund the barn over bait. This year only 9 , because of little
snow , which I count on for fizibelity.

those QLD dogs in video are more hungry, more brave an more crossed by pig dogs etc. up north they are trapping an calling quite alot of dogs.

ours are like a mountain dog, live where the deer do, on the hills behind the properties! seldom seen in paddock but it does happen for sure

Alot of good info here!
