Alternatively "Email Money Transfer"
Basically, if you have online banking, you probably have the ability to send an Interac Email Money Transfer.
The person who is going to receive the money gives you their email address, their real name (To: ), and the amount.
You go to your online banking and enter that, along with a Security Question and Answer. At this point the funds are removed from your account.
The bank sends an email to the receiver, with a link to a website, they see the Security Question, and if they are able to correctly enter the 'top secret' Security Answer (as password transaction authentication -- i.e. you've communicated the answer with them externally), then they are able to decide into which of their bank accounts the money is to be put.
Note at no time does either side know the account numbers of the person they are transacting with.
Money can be received within 30 minutes -- and often within 1 minute. It's become the preferred method of transfering money for independant (non store) online transactions.
