Ive seen 223 barrels for mausers for sale, and ive got one here.

Other than the case heads being fairly different, with the 8mm at .473", and .223 at .378"

what has to happen in order to have the gun shoot .223 accurately? and the magazine function as well.

????????

thanks in advance

A single shot conversion would require a barrel and extractor. A repeater would be a challenge. I have seen a .222 repeater made by Parker Hale on a 98 action, and it would be interesting, to say the least.

Certainly more money than it is worth... as a repeater it would be a major project. As previously mentioned, just making it a single shot will require making an extractor and closing the bolt face up and making a loading ramp.

And when you are done accuracy would not be on par with a Savage or Remington 700 action.

If you already have the threaded m98 barrel in 223 then get it reamed open to 22-250. the rate of twist might factor in on the bullet weights that will shoot but you should be fine up to the 60gr or so. As for the mag box, the 22-250 is same as a 308 so other than the fact that you have a long action with a short cartridge it shouldn't make a difference in the magazine. if anything you will be able to seat bullets out further.

just my 2 cents.
