What does my Norc CQA need?

Hi mlanteigne,
That's how I read it too..... Bugger, bought if they weren't altered they were legal. Means my lar mags are prohib?....,,

4. Magazines designed for one firearm but used in a different firearm

The maximum permitted capacity of a magazine is determined by the kind of firearm it is designed or manufactured for use in and not the kind of firearm it might actually be used in. As a consequence, the maximum permitted capacity remains the same regardless of which firearm it might be used in.

FYI

Oh I admit, legalese confuses the heck out of me but this:

2. Magazines designed or manufactured for both centrefire calibre rifles and handguns

Magazines designed to contain centrefire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a semiautomatic rifle are limited to five cartridges. However, magazines designed to contain centrefire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a semiautomatic handgun are limited to 10 cartridges. Magazines designed or manufactured for use in both semiautomatic rifles and semiautomatic handguns are subject to the limit of five cartridges.

Example:
Hi-Point rifle and handgun chambered for 9mm Luger caliber:

magazine capacities over five rounds are prohibited.

Seems to say that regardless of intended use, anything on an AR is prohib. No?

No. You are correct in thinking that mags designed for use in both rifles and pistols are limited to whatever the lower limit is between the two. What you are missing is the part I bolded above. The key is what firearm the mag is DESIGNED to be used in. Mags designed for use ONLY in pistols have a capacity limit of 10 rounds. The ATRS and LAR mags are PISTOL mags. The fact that they also will work in a rifle is irrelevant.

I bought a Norinco as my first AR.
I'll give you the advice I should have listened to from the get go.
It's a Norinco so use it as one. Go out and shoot the crap out of it and live with whatever precision it gives you.
If it's a 2 MOA gun then it's a 2 MOA gun if it's a 4 MOA gun then that's what it is.
By all means try different ammo to see what works best for you.

Don't try to make a 4 MOA gun into a 2 MOA gun because you will be better served by going out and buying or building one on American/Canadian parts.

Don't buy a $100.00 red dot you will be throwing your money away.
For that kind of money get yourself a set of decent open sights and learn how to shoot or save up for a quality red dot that will last you a. Lifetime

Seems like a really easy way around the law lol. Well that is good news I suppose. I am surprised the Gov't allows it, being as paranoid as they are when it comes to firearms.

Thump_rrr, thanks for the advice. I have found some red dots on Aliexpress.com that were 50-60 bucks but wasn't sure the quality of them. Maybe I will give them a try.

So speaking of cheaper made in china optics...I've found a few I am looking at getting. Wondered what you guys thought.

Eotech clone... http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Prof...sports-high-quality-equipment/1535243776.html

Shorter Eotech clone... http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Holo...DOT-Sight-Scope-Free-Shipping/1606739743.html

Vector Optics... http://www.aliexpress.com/item/TAC-...t-Scope-with-Weaver-Mount-Base/900466743.html

Thoughts? I know the eotech's won't function anywhere close to the real deal. But I'm not putting a 3-5 hundred dollar scope on a $600 rifle lol. I just need the thing to not bounce out of zero when I shoot.

Nothing says that eotech etc. has to stay on that rifle, my 512
has been on a half dozen and still going strong. That was a good
investment. One of the few. LOL

Thoughts?

By far the best value in a red dot is the Bushnell TRS-25. They go for $100-$120, some models come with a riser mount specifically designed for flat top AR's and they actually work and hold zero. The only weakness I have seen is they don't do well in the rain. If you can keep it dry it will run for years.
