What does my "once in a lifetime" hunting rifle look like? Answer Given

If I were only shooting one... it would be something like the Sako 85 Bavarian Full Stock below... and it would be chambered for an effective and unique cartridge... this one is in 7X64... much coolness... and mounted would be a Leupold VX-6 2-12X42mm in Sako Opti-Lock rings (for that " Oh so, clean" look)...

Hint, hint...

Nice, as I'm a little partial to full wood style Mannlichers, in appropriare European calibres.

Given the game the OP hints at, the range, and the recoil sensitivity, one would be hard pressed to do better than a 257 Weatherby. If I had to spend a lot of money, I'd look for one of the original South Gate models built on a commercial FN Mauser 98, but then again like some others have suggested, one could get that in a much more reasonable package and spend the remainder on a hunt - perhaps taking a loved one along to build some shared memories. I have a s.s. Vanguard 2 in 257 WBY, with a 6x42 Meopta on top of Talley LWs, and have a stellar package for all of about $1300 taxes in. It's about as close as one is going to come to a frickin' laser beam in a big game rifle.

;)'Broaden it' you did. Details???

Getting really tired, can't spell, sorry )

It is latest Blaser BD14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QImMY4-u7QM Each barrel adjustable for sighting independently, all barrels free floating, vertical block locking which removes forces from outer receiver so it can be aluminum, optics mounted directly to the top barrel with quick release and no shift in zero - typical Blaser engineering magic. Unlike some "all new proprietary actions" )

:)Appreciate the info. Thanks for that.

Unless you change basic structure of firearm ammunition there is nothing new, in the last 100 of years everything was already done one way or another. What can you expect, an H&K G11 "hunting edition" maybe? Ah well, goes prohib "by name or variant of" )))))

However the question is not what's new in a history or men, but what is new on the table to buy as OP's once a lifetime rifle.

WTF would someone spend so much effort on a ridiculous platform from the get go I'm surprised at Blaser. But I guess there are just enough guys out there more interested in staring at the gadgetry and furniture than ever actually using the rifle.

you are right but Blaser is always trying to sell gun for what they re not ... will it be a Sodia or any gun makers from Ferlach and you ll have something really different and beautiful ...

but to each his own ..

i had the chance to visit one factory of Blaser in Isny and two gunshops in Ferlach and some on the slovene borders and there is no comparison if you really like a beautful work you are seeing what im talking about.

blaser is one of the best marketing company we have ever met ... that doesnt mean they have the best product.

Do you have any ideas on how they could improve their product?

ideas i dont know but on the r93 there is no bolt stop like on the heym sr30.

barrels used on the r93 are not useable on the r8 ...

hope you dont think about loosing the trigger group and magazine of the r8 ...

they have great barrel for sure, the optic mounting system is excellent (barrel mount) but no sure the price asked is worth it.

but that is just and yes i used blaser and most of my friends are still using them ...

good marketing has i said before.

they re good mechanically industrial gun but not handcrafted ones.

Golden gun? You mean price-wise they are not Savage? Well, its a premium hunting brand for Sig, they don't make cheap because Sig has Merkel, Sauer, Mauser, Haenel and probably another 2 or 3 hunting firearm brands to split the price points around.

Do you have any doubts about Blaser's quality?

between savage and blaser there is a lot of rifles available that do not cost that much and are offering a lot.

a brand or a stamp means nothing today all the barrels are coming from the same factory and then get a stamp a sauer 80-90 is a different gun than a blaser 93-r8 mauser 03 or the actual sauer 202. a merkel, suhl or krupp barrels are really a step above ...

at beginning the switch barrel used on the blaser was a worksman gun not a luxury one because of european gun laws then the marketing made it a different story they are not worth what they are charging especially on the NA market.

they re not bad on the qulity side but again for the price they re not perfect.

do you own one or more?
