what does the 597 like for ammo?

what does the 597 like for ammo? It likes copper jacketed, nickle plated ammo.

I had a VTR model and found with just a lead bullet it would get very fouled up quickly and lead to lots of jamming.

Feed it clean ammo, and preferibly high velocity stuff.

Mini Mag

I just got back from the range.

10 shots at each bull
From sand bags at 50 yards
Remington 597 & Leupold 2-7 rimfire scope:

Top row: Federal Bulk 525 36 grain HP
2nd Row: CCI Stinger
3rd and 4th Row: CCI Mini Mag

I'm glad I picked up some Mini Mags to try out or I might have thrown this rifle in the trash when I got home.

I should add that function was fine with all three brands and that I shot at a fairly quick pace. Likely 30 seconds or so for each group.

Also, I alternated brands with each group I shot.

I was pretty surprised at just how poorly the Federal and the Stingers shot. Nothing resembling a group there at all.

After shooting this target I can say that shooting Federal Bulk or Stingers in this rifle is a complete waste of time unless I just want to hear a 'bang'.

I'm looking forward to plinking with the Mini Mags, I'm guessing it will be much more satisfying than with the Federal Bulk that I have been using.

I'll try the same test with my Henry and see what I get.

I ran some T22 target Winchester's through my Browning BL-22 on the weekend. And WOW. 25 yards all where same hole or touch. It out shoot everything else I had for ammo. Blazers/fedbulk/CCI blazers and standard. Was low-mid grade as far as $$$ goes for It might be worth a try. at $3.50ish a box. there's no harm!>
