In my experieince having bought, owned and sold a couple within the last 4 years, is as follows:
1) Valmet hunter. These look more like a Remington 742 than an AK. About $2K because some guys buy them for the barelled action to make a Gallil clone.
2) Valmet M78 in 7.62x51. About $4500-5000 depending on condition and how many mags it comes with. Most in Canada are milled, though the stamped version aparently work better with converted G3 mags which are cheaper to buy. These are hte most common non-hunter versions in Canada. Mags often sell for over $250 each!
3) Valmet M78 in 7.62x39. About $5000-6000. These take cheap and plentiful AK mags, hence the extra appeal. All I have seen up here were stamped receiver. At least one industrious CGN'er over the last few years has taken (I think it was Romanian?) an AKM parts kit, disassembled one of these for the stamped AMK-type receiver, and riveted in the surplus trunions and built a Russian AKM clone. Perfectly legal, though an awfully expensive way to get a gun that sells for under $400 in the states and is still limited to 5 rounds.
