What does this VAVER peep fit?

Measure the curve and extrapolate the diameter and it will fit whichever rifle is similar or look at the mounting screw holes. If it's flat where it meets the base it's being attached to, it's likely intended to be multi-purpose and the rail it fits on would be proprietary.

Not trying to be snide.

It could easily be an aftermarket product and made to fit several different receivers, or it could be proprietary to one type.

That's a very nicely made sight by the way. Most aren't that precise or marked that well.

From Google

Vaver Sight Co. Chicago,Illinois Dial Micrometer receiver peep sight for the Model 52 Winchester. In good functional condition. These sights were available in the 1920's and 30's

OK, two screws, mounts on left side of a round receiver...
Windage arm is not particularly long, indicting a relatively small diameter receiver...
I suspect it would fit a .22 target rifle. Perhaps one of the classic Remingtons or Winchesters.

I have a Pacific Gun Sights catalog, circa 1943, that has a drawing of this sight. The drawing lists the models/rifles below.

No. 5237 for Winchester "52"
No. 35-M5L for Stevens Walnut Hill
No. 35-M10 for BSA rifles
No. 35-M12 for Ballard

Thanks for the replies. I am not sure if the numbering is "6008" or "8009". The curve of the sight suggest to me it may be for a big bore or a .22 with a large receiver. It does not fit any receiver on my .22s but I don't have too many different .22s to try it with.

I think I've read that the sights were not marked with model or rifle, only the original box.

Your sight matches the pic in my catalog, it should fit one of the rifles I mentioned earlier.

It will likely require an adapter rail. If memory serves, they had drilled and tapped rails in the box, which had to be attached to pre-drilled and tapped holes on the sides of the receivers it was intended for.

My guess is the sight was fitted to a target rifle in house and stamped with the firearms serial number or a portion of the serial number ensuring precise fit....perhaps a factory equiped 52? Only a guess...
