Here is a few pictures of the one I made, along with an easily dissassembled and very overbuilt frame. The legs are made from 1" solid steel. The crossbar is a massive 1 7/16" I had a heck of a time cutting the plate to size, used an Oxy-Acetylene and then cleaned it up a bit with the grinder. The rectangle plate I welded on another quick link, to allow it to be hung sideways as well.
Please no comments on the prescence of the cobwebs, I havent gotten it out in faaar too long and I am well aware of that! Too much work, not enough play
The plate I used is 3/4" thick mild steel. Here is what I found when I torture tested a scrap piece.
200yds with a 7mm REMINGTON MAGNUM. I tried three bullets, 162 A Max, 175 Interlock, 160 Partition, and as expected the 175 Interlock did the most damage. But not much more than the Partition. Looks like about a 1/4 inch deep "splash" was about the worst damage that could be done. On the back side of the plate you could see a circle created by the bullet, and a slight bulge of around 1mm.
Left to right in the photo are: 45 gr 22-250. Interlock, and A-Max.
The left impact is the Interlock, the right is the A-Max
I also shot it once with my 22-250 and 45gr Winchester factory at 4000fps. It did a fair little bit of damage as well so likely it's a combo of velocity and bullet. I also did a torture test with the 162A-Max to see what that would do. I used the first shot from my 22-250 as a target, then placed 3 shots on top of it. The plate stood up fairly well to that. I'll attach that one as well, but mostly to brag.
I know, not a .50 BMG or .338 Lapua Magnum, but it still did some damage.
So after all of that, I am intrigued by the Flanges. Where does someone go to find one of these? I like the idea of a precut, very thick , very resilient plate.
