What entry level O/U for skeet would you recommend?

time constraints, lifestyle changes have affected my range time, so I've been re-evaluating what I wish to do and enjoy and one of them would be skeet, maybe trap, once or twice a month. :dancingbanana:

what O/U would you recommend looking at? I don't want semi, pump or SxS and yes, I understand O/U's tend to have a premium, but that's okay. nothing fancy/smancy, my gun will get dinged and scratched, I do this for fun and I'm a clutz.

is it truly necessary to spend that much? as I said, I know they have a price premium...but $2700? eek!

Possibly not. I'm on a similar journey to yours right now and I'm considering Franchi - in my case not because it is so much less expensive (and it is) - but because it simply fits so much better. Owned by Beretta - built just down the street from Beretta.

Might be worth a look for you too.

Rob!

There are plenty of good affordable o/u options. Look for a used Browning Citori or Winchester 101. Guns with removable chokes can be found in the $1000-$1300 range. Fixed choke guns can be had for much less. Cant beat that!

I came to that conclusion today after facing a similar choice. I ended up bringing this Browning Superposed home for less than a Turkish O/U. It appears to be a very finely made and finished gun both externally and internally.

Good advice. Better to go with a used quality gun, than a new economy gun.

Congrats. Did Ross check it to make sure it was not a salt wood gun ?? If it is he best give you a REAL good price on it
Hard to see if short or long tang which helps ID salt guns
Cheers

Short tang. I checked where the wood meets the metal pretty closely and pulled a buttplate screw...looked good to me.

Check out the ATA SP series.
They are great quality for a great price. I own one and have shot at least 5000 rounds without issue. Great bang for your buck and pretty too!

I have an older model Stoeger Condor which I got for three hundred bucks and for that price it's been awesome.
Not fancy by any means but the fit and ergos are perfect for me. Always feels solid and I've put hundreds of shells through it.
A bit on the heavy side but at the same time it means I can spend a whole afternoon busting clays with it without any shoulder fatigue.
