I was referring to real UMP's manufactured as a semi. They exist, although are very rare in civvy hands.

Nothing wrong with sourcing quality gear, but there comes a point where supporting it isn't worth the price, hassle, or wait. I guess if you shoot from the bench twice a year for a total of 200 rounds you'd be ok. TDC

Sure, for that gun and a few other similar guns, they are priced outside the realm of reality.
That said, many of the other guns discussed are a third of that cost, in other words the same cost as a high end AR-15.
Where is the line drawn on what others should and should not buy?
UMPs in and of themselves are not prohib. I personally know two people that have them. They are under strict orders that I am to get a phone call if theirs are ever going up for sale. The third guy I knew that had one sold it for his cost and I never got a phone call :-(
The line is a personal choice. The SL8 is a piece of sh*t that doesn't do anything very well. They're heavy and cumbersome with unthreaded barrels. The triggers are marginal at best and parts are near impossible to get. By the time you're done changing the stock for a G36 type affair you're pushing well over $3000 and you haven't mounted glass. The fixed LOP G36 stock is counter productive, and if you run the G36 style "carry handle" then offset is a major problem with optics. The mag well requires HK mags or you could pay even more money for the AR mag well adaptor.
UMP/USC we discussed, same problem. Anyone notice a bit of a trend here? HK products are a royal PIA to support and cost a mint.
The FN P90 has very few accessories for it and ammo is ultra rare and expensive.
Purchase what you want its your money. Just don't b*tch and moan when it spends its whole life in the safe collecting dust because parts or ammo are unavailable.

I think we've got a pretty good selection of non-restricted rifles right now to be honest.
Between converted ACRs, Swiss Arms, the Tavor and a whole host of other weird and wonderful guns (T97 someday bahaha) there's a fair number of options around.
Even those pricey european guns have their place.

I think we can all agree we would LIKE to have a greater selection or NR but its just not the case right now... if ever
EXACTLY! I hate hearing about the XCR, RFB, Swiss Arm, etc etc because they are some of the only NR blacks in Canada, and are wayyy too popular. I would love to see a Canadian manufacture!
Keep dreaming. The firearm market in Canada is far too small for anyone to make a profit with a ground up design.

Yep. All the decent NR black rifles are over 1.5K, and we have ALOT of hunting rifles and shotguns.
