What firearm for fun?

.410 and husky singley shot .22

what i would really like to have a play with would be a 9mm luger bolt action rifle. 16" barrel.

never seen or heard of one but i would like one if such a thing

I find myself shooting my 22 LR heavy barrel the most out of everything. It's cheap to shoot, very accurate and fun fun fun. Next is my 17 HMR and 17Mach2, a little more range and zest and also much fun. And a very very close runner up is my heavy barrel 222, extremely accurate. Will step up shooting my heavy barrel 223 and 204, as soon as I can get my oldest son to find time to reload some ammo for them. I have other target rifles, 22-250 and 243 and 6mm, but they aren't my all day shooting favorites, bigger bang, bigger blast! We're very very lucky to live in the country with no close neighbors and nobody complains of the noise. We have a backyard range to 195 yards and shoot from a shelter. Sure would like a longer range, but it only takes a few mins to get to the old abandoned sand pits, where we could set up to shoot 600 yards or more, if so desired. I bought a custom built long range target rifle in 308 (my big green gun as I call her) about 3 years ago, and I haven't fired it more than a few rounds just to test it out, now how bad is that? I'm thinking about rebarreling it to 260.

When I just want fun. It's a box of clay pigeons, a flat of federal 2 3/4 #9 and whatever shotgun is near by. its a $50 dollar afternoon and with a couple friends it's hard to beat.

Also hard to beat a .22 and some sort of active target.

Or cheap tack driving, my Savage 93 in 17hmr. Beer caps at 100 yards? Okay.

Henry Frontier lever action .22 and some good reactive targets. There's a thread in the general section with lots of good suggestions for those.

Honestly, the gun I have that makes me smile the most is my mannlicher m95. Something about that straight pull bolt and the ease of reloading with the enbloc clips, the satisfying "ding" noise when you chamber the last round and the clip falls out... love it. Not particularly cheap to shoot though. I wonder if the browning t-bolt 22 would be as much fun?

Just got myself a cheap savage 17hmr, my 22 isnt going to see the sun light for a good while. Its an awesome shooting gun. I also like my cheap as dirt maverick 88 12ga, i think i have fun with these guns because I dont have much money into them and no sentimental value.

My only firearm that is without a real purpose but gets used a lot is my cute little Rossi M92 .357/.38 I sure have killed a lot of cans and rand a lot of steel gongs with it, punched some paper, and even shot a few gophers and other rodents. It is fun, and cheap with cast bullets in .38 special cases. Surprisingly accurate too with the Lyman receiver sight that I installed. I will probably take it deer hunting this fall just to give it some "serious" work, but it does pretty well without a real job.

New shooters I take out are introduced to three things

.223 ~ bigger boom, a bit of recoil, makes fruit explode. Mine happens to be a heavy barrel. Nothing brings a smile to a new shooters lips like putting the .223 on a sandbag and hammering a 300m gong on the first shot.

.

Thats cool!

Winchester 69A 22 rim.....ole faithful.
New T-Bolt 22 rim....cool, chitty trigger.
New CZ 452 22 rim......neat and fabulous trigger.
Winchester 1894 25-35......awe factor
Mauser 98 in 6.5x55 fat Swede......really makes me smile.

My scoped Ruger 10 22 and my Rossi 44 16" barrel with skinner sights keep me entertained. I like an afternoon at the range with these and I usually bring one other hunting rifle to play with.

Fun time usually revolves around my 12ga pump but the CZ527 223 is my sweetie. The real scene stealer is the BSA Martini Model 8 heavy barrel single shot 22 with tang sights. Its a tack driver and its weird enough that the kids get a big kick out of it at youth camp. I hear a lot of " well what the heyell is that?". My sweet 9422 is a lot of fun to shoot and accurate to boot. I like weird mechs and the Martini action and falling blocks just have such a Kool factor. I am looking for a trapdoor Springfield carbine to play with too, Thats a pretty strange mech.
