What firearms would you have bought if you had been alive one hundred years ago

i will say even 50 years ago ... maybe a 12 ga, a 22lr and BG rifle now we need specialized tool and that is why we are here ...

I don't know about you Cubby, but I don't time travel without at least 10k of old-timey currency with me. You're right though, my family hunted for meat carrying sporterized Sniders and Vetterlis and the kids were allowed one or two bullets back then.
 
A surprising number of the firearms mentioned from a hundred years ago, you can still buy new today, such as the 1911 and the different Winchester lever actions and the Mauser 98 (with difficulty in Canada!). There are not many more complex manufactured items that are still being made after one hundred years.
 
100 years ago, I would have just used a longbow... I still prefer archery gear for BG hunting... I feel more like a participant in an ancient story when carrying a bow... even the modern cam bows... but nothing beats the feeling of being in the woods with a self-bow and cedar arrows.

I started with a bear Deer Slayer when II was 12 , still shooting stick bows but prefer the long bow.

Assuming ample funds for the time. I would be acquiring some of the finer shotguns of the day. Like some of the higher grade M-12's in 12 and 20 ga. M-42's. Not totally sure when the Parkers came on scene or the Win 21 but they would be of interest also. A few of the very large bore shotguns that were mounted on punts for market duck hunting would also be of interest.

Some a higher grade Winchester lever guns would also be of interest.

Perhaps a Thompson machine gun would have also found it s way home as well.

Purdey's or Rigby 12 ga doubles
Mauser '98 in .30 Super and 9.3x62

Maybe throw in a Farquharson in .240 Apex for varmints.....and a double rifle in .450/400 Nitro
