This is a personal preference thing, no flaming! Everyone in entitled to their own opinion.

Is there any game that you will not hunt, and why?

I personally can't hunt wolf or coyote, reminds me of my doggy too much. Can't do it.

I'm also not big on bear hunting for similar reasons. I also don't like the taste of bear. If they were tastier I would consider it.

Deer, Moose, Elk, etc = Dead Meat when I'm around. Heck, I'd shoot a cow if they grew wild :D

I'll hunt any bird I can eat.

Not big on gopher, p-dogs or squirrels. I like to eat my kills. I can certainly see the appeal of a gopher shoot, it looks really fun, but I don't like killing for "fun". (Personal preference, no judgment on people who enjoy it)

What about you guys?

Nothing really, depends on the circumstances I guess. I'm not much of a deer hunter, but will wack one for someone if that means I can secure the land for other games etc. I keep a tag handy for such situation.

Anything I can eat (and that includes a lot) or anything that is a "varmint" (something destructive of property like gophers and coyotes around here).

My wife used to bug me about gopher shooting (even when land owners bought me ammo to thin them out) because they were "too cute". Then a family of them moved in under our neighbor's shed, and started eating her garden stuff. One day she stormed into the house and told me, "I want those gophers dead, and I want them dead now!" I went out with a lawn chair and the pellet gun.

She doesn't bother me any more when I shoot gophers.

squirrels, rabbit and gopher.......small little animals i have trouble killing cause they cant kill me, they would rather run then attack you know.

now if it was deer, elk, moose or black/grizzly bear i have no trouble killing one of those animals cause they have the ability to kill me just as quick as i could kill them.

sorry if this makes no sense at all but thats the way i see it.

Turkey, first of all I have no desire to hunt them. Second of all in Ontario you need to take a course to be able to hunt them. You can hunt any other game in Ontario by taking the hunters safety course and buying a licence, but you need to take a course to hunt turkeys.
Other than that, if it flys it dies. I also hunt deer and moose and buy a bear tag just in case. I also love hunting rabbits.

[QUOTE= worst example in my mind is cougar hunts, using dogs to tree an animal and then shooting it from close range where the animal has little or no chance of escape. not cool in my opinion.

100% agree.

i do not really agree with the majority of predator hunting unless it is for population control purposes or problem individuals. i guess i feel that we are hunters like them and they deserve that respect. worst example in my mind is cougar hunts, using dogs to tree an animal and then shooting it from close range where the animal has little or no chance of escape. not cool in my opinion. trophy hunting is also not my cup of tea, some would argue that it is killing for the sake of killing or because we can. i have no problem keeping a set of antlers from a hunt but it is not my main reason for going.

There is no conservation concern for predators anywhere in Western Canada. That in itself is reason enough to hunt them. Don't know about the East.

I suspect you don't really have a full grasp of what a cougar hunt with dogs entails.

i have a complete grasp of what a cougar hunt entails, and it is not an activity i would participate in.

If you have a complete grasp of what a cougar hunt is, you wouldn't have said this:

worst example in my mind is cougar hunts, using dogs to tree an animal and then shooting it from close range where the animal has little or no chance of escape.

Because that's just the anticlimactic conclusion, it has little to do with the rest of the hunt.

The only thing I have ever had a problem pulling the trigger on was a family pet that got hit by a car. I think animals that live among humans (cats, dogs, etc that you actually get to see some form of personality in) are about it for me. (I'll still shoot em If I have to, for humane reasons, but anything else thats legal is good for me as a game animal.

I am not much inclined to hunt things I don't care to eat, e.g. most predators and pests, unless they are threatening or pestering me. I don't see anything wrong with it, e.g. if I were in Africa I'd hunt a lion or leopard that was threatening people or their livestock (and thus their livelihood), but I won't spend time and money on a safari to hunt those animals for sport because I don't have enough time and money for all the hunting I'd like to do of local, edible game.

Anything out of Africa, don't get me wrong i am sure the hunt would be fun but the usual $10000 min for a hunt would pay for a lot of canadian hunting trips and there is lots of nice country to see in canada.

Moose hunting is not at the top of my list. Been there done that, out of all the moose I have seen, they seem kinda dumb and easy to shoot. One hunt we shot a calf with a cow as we never drew a full size tag. Not a pretty sight to watch a cow try to get the calf up, and refuse to leave the sight. Had a cow walk up to me and sniff the end of my gun barrel, turn and mozy on into the bush. Have had many full grown moose very close, seemed intrested to figure me out, only to somber away slowly and peacefully. Would much rather hunt game like deer or bear that can turn on a dime and high tail it out of sight in a blink of an eye. I will say moose meat tastes GREAT!
