What game will you NOT hunt, and why?

honestly, i don't really like the killing part of hunting. i find it a sad moment that to me is just a means to an end. maybe i've gone syrupy.
i love being outdoors though, especially with a gun, and i think hunting for food is a very natural thing to do. i hunt because i like game meat and enjoy the outdoors. and heck, buying meat at the grocery store dosen't make anyone less of a killer. if you eat meat you helped kill it in my eyes. shooting it yourself is just owning up to it and being aware of what it means to put food on the table.

Nothing against people who hunt for the thrill of the kill though... it's just not in me.

I know I'm going to get heavily flamed for this, but I'll say it anyways.
Every time I successfully drop a big game animal, once it's tagged, I always take a knee and say a prayer of thanks.
A prayer of thanks to a "higher power" than myself.

That's me............weird as it seems.

PS: No, I'm not a church person.

Kidding...I also do this for every deer I have ever shot...and I'm as non-religious as you can get.

Nothing weird about it at all.

In fact, if I take someone hunting on the farm, and they Do NOT show such respect for the animal...it is their LAST time hunting with me.

I get it....

I become quiet and little remorseful after I take down a large game animal...I don’t celebrate loudly or go for the high fives all around thing at all. I often just sit and stay quiet with the animal for a while before I field dress it. To me, the death of a beautiful wild animal should be handled in a completely respectful way. Flame away if you like but I never take pictures or pose with the animal. FWIW am very passionate about hunting and very much look forward to it.

I like the "prayer of thanks" idea...it's very Last of the Mohicans, I might start doing that as well.
 
It is a animal just like a chicken,do you say a prayer for the chickens at KFC? Saying a prayer for thanks to your god is one thing, saying a prayer for an animals which doesn't have a souls(debate away)don't waste your time praying for them.
 
I can't think of anything that walks on land or flies. I shoot lots of animals I wouldn't eat.
Sea creatures are just to damn hard to shoot what with the water and all.

I would love to go big game hunting and get a giraffe.

Oh ya, I would like to shoot manatees' ,

About all I hunt are deer and grouse. Anything bigger won't fit in my freezer and the g/f isn't a big fan of wild meat anyway.

I do enjoy whacking gophers but since moving North I dont thin I'll be able to get out after them as often

i do not really agree with the majority of predator hunting unless it is for population control purposes or problem individuals. i guess i feel that we are hunters like them and they deserve that respect. worst example in my mind is cougar hunts, using dogs to tree an animal and then shooting it from close range where the animal has little or no chance of escape. not cool in my opinion. trophy hunting is also not my cup of tea, some would argue that it is killing for the sake of killing or because we can. i have no problem keeping a set of antlers from a hunt but it is not my main reason for going.

I become quiet and remorseful too. Mostly when I realize that I managed to find the one spot on the map that is equally as far in any direction to the nearest place I can reach with my truck.....:D

foxes. Seen enough, never thought twice about not killing it.

I'm with the guys about respecting your kill. I have taken pictures but I don't appreciate any funny business. Get the job done and move on.
