I am new to the shooting sports and I am looking at purchasing my first shotgun. I have 2 uses for it:

#1 hunt turkeys
#2 hunt deer using slugs

Soooo with that being said what gauge would I be looking at?

12 gauge. Multiple barel (one regular, one rifled) Forget about regular slug, use sabot slug for deer. You can now get sabot slug going out at 2000fps with small plastic cap that create a much better expension and you get a great accuracy at 200yard. No reason to shoot regular innacurate slug.

Suggesting a remington 870 with combo or trio barrel.

If cost is an issue, consider the Mossberg 500 combo. You can get a combo with rifled barrel for about $350 last time I looked.

How about a blunderbus.

Why aim for just the deer when you can hit both deer and turkey at once with a blunderbus. :p

I would go with the Mossberg 500 3 Barrel Combo. I got one in the spring and love it. It is a good value for what you get. You get a Turkey barrel, Slug barrel and 28" barrel.
It is camo, so if it is being used as a hunter that is a bonus. I paid $480 or so for mine, I love it. Since it wasn't super expensive, I don't mind it getting banged up in the canoe or in the bush.
The slug barrel has a cantilever mount for a scope, the turkey barrel has fiber optic sights and the 28" has dual beads.

Woody

"...my pricing may be out..." Varies a bit from place to place, but close enough.
Epp's is listing 12 guage, Mossberg 500 3-in-1, Realtree, combos with a 24" VR PORTED BBL, a 28" PORTED VR BBL and a 24" RIFLED ISB BBL, an Accu-choke set plus an extra full turkey choke at $493.75. Covers everything.
