What gear on you?

Interested to know what gear you carry as far as harness/belts etc. How do you carry mags. What specific gear is good to have. And what is essential kit?

My gear is used for work and for fun. All config can be worn alone or combined. You have to try your gear and adjust it to how you are train and what works for you.

Whatever you are doing (work or fun) a med kit should always be on your gear and training to use the equipement should be a priority. It could save your life. Then its up to you.

#1 Persec Aware (triple kydex pistol pouch removed for work)

#2 Line Of Fire Defense (fun set up)

#3 Tactical Tailor MAV (work gear)

Since this is in the PRS section, I assume you mean for PRS matches. I carry 1x kydex mag pouch on a well-worn crocodile leather belt. Everything else is in my range bag. I've seen some guys with a kestrel pouch and a dump bag, not sure how much they need that on the belt during a stage.

Yes for PR / PRS shooting specifically. For example, I wouldn't want to wear my old tac rifle chest rig necessarily, shooting prone. I don't imagine there being any running and gunning going on.

I rigged up an awesome battle belt with first aid, mag pouches, kestrel pouch, range finder and the works. Turns out I haven't worn it for a single stage. There is lots of time to prep for each stage at the matches I have been to. All you really would want is a simple belt with a single mag pouch for your intended mag. One mag in the gun (usually at the beginning of the stage) and then one on your belt if the stage requires a mag change. That's all. Then load up your range bag with all sorts of goodies and carry it to each stage.

Im to surprised to hear this. So just load my pack well, and have a couple mags on me

This rig looks nice but prob not for what I'm doing. Would have been great back in my tac rifle days :) Maybe again

Been practising for the upcoming CPRS match in Merritt and I have already "lightened" the load. Once I started timing myself, a whole lot of fancy support kit got left on the bench.... I am way too slow with all that stuff. And the worst part, I end up tripping over this stuff so it ends up not helping me in the least.

You have 90secs or so and a bunch of tasks. I figure around 6secs per bang so there goes 1 minute on a 10 shot stage. I got to set up and/or move with the remaining 30secs or so. Yeah, I don't want anything that can cause an oops.

If you dump your mag by accident, then have a spare ready to go. But if you have a serious mechanical oops, you not will have time to dig out tools and resolve.

So I am keeping it very simple and easy to move around... seems to help me.

I will echo what many others have said about requiring minimal gear. This is very true in Canada when our matches are held on a square range and we are largely shooting off a pad. I use my holster belt and it holds a mag pouch and that is about it.

Maybe Komb or someone else will chime in as I have limited experience in US matches but you need to drag about more gear around in a pack down there. I had a days worth of ammo, my shooting bags (Gamechange, beer can bag, and pump pillow which I never used), Binos, Kestrel, and some pens. I carried my tripod separately but really wish I could have lashed it to the back. Things I wish I had were some basic cleaning supplies (an oily rag would have sufficed) and I am probably going to order up one of those gun cover dealies.

Most just have one spare mag on the belt of their pants. I go a ways further than most and use a battle belt. But, I have a system and it works for me. I always have 3 mags. One goes in the rifle, the other two are spares. If I get a misfeed, I don't fiddle with it, I just rip out the mag and let it and the problem rounds fall to the ground then I grab a new one from whichever side I have a free hand on. That's why I have two, so that I don't have to reach around.

I keep my kestrel in one pouch so that I can take last minute wind readings when I'm on deck (next to shoot).

The dump pouch is just for doing my house keeping at the end of the stage. I'll put my chamber flag in it before I start the stage, then retrieve it from it at the end and insert it. Then my mag, ejected live round and any brass I pick up gets dropped in the dump pouch. If my hands are full, and someone picks up my brass or mag, I just have them throw it in the dump pouch. I find it really handy.

I have a clip for my Gamechanger. I usually only use this to carry it when going between stages because it's a pain to get in and out of my backpack and it usually crushes stuff when I put it in. I'll mostly just use the Solo Sac for barricades. That is usually the only bag I bring to a barricade stage. I mostly use my Gamechanger as a rear bag and will only bring it to a prone only stage. If I think that the Solo Sac might be too low, I'll clip the Gamechanger onto the belt so that I can switch to it if I need to. I could shoot an entire match using only one or the other as my only bag if necessary.

I used the Fat Bag once this season and last, so I don't even carry it anymore. I just borrow one if I need it.

I've seen more people time out from fiddling with a misfeed than most other things (other than not being able to find targets on too high of a magnification). Usually happens when they bump the bolt and knock a round far enough forward that when they run the bolt back, it picks up another round and they get a double. Even if you clear it, you may not have enough rounds left in the mag to complete the stage. Then more time wasted trying to single feed rounds from the 2 round holder or rounds picked up off the ground. WAY faster to just rip it out, let it all fall to the ground and grab a fresh mag and insert it.

I've been running a battle belt as well but I find it to be a bit overkill for PRS matches but great for team/field matches. On the left I have a pouch for my Kestrel and 2 rifle mag pouches with a double pistol shingle on top of the front mag pouch. On the right side I have a G-Code adapter so that I can attach my holster for matches that require a pistol and then I have a padded pouch for my lrf. I've been meaning to get a dump pouch for the rear but I normally just put my used brass in a cargo pocket till I'm back at my pack. I just got some kydex pouches that I'll be using for PRS matches going forward, I think. 2 rifle mag pouches (one for each side) and a Kestrel pouch.

I built this setup. Will change it up as I start using it and know what I need and want

HSGI cobra and suregrip belts. 4x TAB gear short action mag pouch. HSGI mag-net dump pouch. And 2 beaners. One for gear, one for sling attachment.
Thanks for the help!

I’m glad I stumbled across this thread. I’ve been thinking of a very similar set-up. Normally I just carry a spare mag in a pocket because my pack is generally just a few feet away from the firing line.

I will likely get some sort of light-weight battle belt with molle. I’ll have a couple of mag pouches, maybe a Kestrel pouch, definitely a dump pouch (for mags and brass) and a couple of carabiners.
