I don't reload and I prefer winchester ammo. I want to shoot 180gr. out of my .308 and I can't find any. I go to winchester's web site and all they recommend for moose and black bear are 150's. I shoot 140's and 160's through my 6.5 and wanted to get more thump from my .308. Am I missing something? The local CT and walmart have 180 gr. silvertips on sale but I understand those are discontinued. Anything in a power point or something? I don't want to site in with something I won't be able to get anymore.

Buy the 180's on sale, get 10 boxes. Will last a lifetime of hunting, and you can use any other bullet for target shooting.

Maybe you can find another GN in your locale that reloads. You can have pretty much what you want then. You might learn something. I have enough ammo loaded up in my 308 for a small range war and heading that way with my 30-06. I load my 308 in 150gr and my 30-06 in 180gr. Pretty much covers my needs. Too bad you are not closer-we could play.

When you go to the Winchester website. Go to "Products" then "Rifle Ammunition" then under Cartridge chose "308 Winchester" not "308win" then chose the type of bullet - power point etc.

It still shows the 180 Silver-tip so not sure if it is being discontinued or not.

There is nothing wrong with the Winchester Power Point or the Remington Core-lokt if they are easy to find in your area.

Suggest you try Walmart if you have one in your area. The only brand of ammo they sell here is Winchester Super X. Then theres always Cambodian Tire..
I have a brand new Cabelas catalog and there is 180gr listed by both Remington and Winchester. Found lots of 150, 165, and 180gr loads. FYI they only charge $10 extra for shipping ammo as a dangerous goods fee instead of $40 like Wholesale. You can buy online or by phone and prices look pretty good.

I had heard talk of winchester discontinuing the 180's. The local wallymart and ct only stock the silvertips and supplies are drastically low. I'll just have to look harder I guess. After consulting the winchester web site and not finding anything, I thought the rumors were true. I'm going to check again.

That's odd, it's reversed here on the wet coast. Until recently it seemed like only 180gr .308 ammo was available. All the 150gr ammo was swallowed up by the M14 crowd. Do you have other stores nearby? Maybe a local sporting good store? I find they usually have the best selection.

I would jump on those 180 Silvertips on sale and buy enough to last the next 20 years. You would have a certain supply, and never have to worry about re-sighting the rifle........and, best of all, the Silvertip is a great game bullet at 308 velocities!
