What GPS do you use for hunting and why?

Have you heard anything about the Endura Safari?
 
Well as I said , I have far to much $ for toys...... I read up on the specs and just by being able to use 32 gig micro sd cards alone , makes it a toy worth looking at. It has all the features of the ifinder and then some , looks like i'm going to own another gps again :rolleyes: I still like my ifinder , but I will buy another anyway , and so far i like what i see about the safari to , check it out a bit closer and prob get one:)
 
Garmin Rino, US 5 watt version. Downloaded the topo maps of Canada for Manitoba and Ontario and its a handy all in one unit with lion battery.
 
Oregon 500t

I have looked at the Rhino and not too impressed. It is nice to have both in one unit but the screen is not too great, radio is weak and it drains a lot of power.

Anyone has experience with Oregon 500t with the Canada topo loaded? How about screen resolution and ease of use.

We just got a nice shiny new Garmin 60CSx for work. Goes well with the other Garmin products we have.

Personally I use a Garmin E-Trex Legend (I think) with the electronic compass and the barometric altimeter. Regular comapss' don't work up here so you need a good GPS with an electronic compass so that you don't have to start walking just to see what direction you're going.
 
I bought a Garmin Nuvi 550 and put a SD card in it with Topo Canada. I haven't used it off road yet, but I like it for driving.

I agree. works great, free maps work great. A hint, check out wallmart stores. The local wallymart has the 60Cx at the old price of $329
 
I dont use a GPS by choice. I'd rather rely on my sense of direction, a compass if necessary, and my powers of observation. part of why I hunt is to get away from technology, not to bring it all with me.
 
I have the 60Cx. The expandable memory is quite convenient, and the software provided (MapSource, and aftermarket Topo Canada) is extremely powerful yet simple to use. Haven't had a single issue with it, and it's been used and abused.
 
I use a Garmin 60Cx. It's a great GPS. I've got Garmin Topo Canada V4 and Ibycus topog maps for all of BC and some of the US Topog maps all on one 2 gig card. It's an easy matter to switch between mapsets.

For those who want to put a LOT of maps on one card, with the most recent software/firmware updates from Garmin it is now possible to use up to a 4 gig micro-SD card. But there is an upper limit of 2025 maps segments.
 
I use a oregon 300 that I bought from GPS city last fall and of all the gps units I have used I have to say it is one of the most user friendly units i have ever came a cross.
 
Th Oregon 400t with Canada topo map loaded I looked at the store is pretty clear and bright. It has the details I am looking for.

At $380 I just can't resist. It followed me home. :D
 
Garmin Rhino 130

It is a GPS with integrated GMRS radio. It's nice cause you can upload topo maps to it and when my buddy trasnmits with his it upates his location on my map and vice versa
 
Garmin Rhino 530 hcx
Great unit with updated weather forecasts and the peer to peer tracking is great to. Sends sos signals if needed to all other rhino users in the area.
 
You can't go wrong with a Garmin, but you can with a Magellan.

I own various GPS', Magellan is nothing but headaches, from software to support. Go Garmin.

Agreed - Magellan support sucks. They don't even bother to respond. Garmin support is decent. They answered my question in a couple of hours and it fixed my issue.

I won't buy a Magellan again...
