what grain in your .45 auto

just wondering what grain bullets you use in ur .45 auto i just picked one up. ruger p345. was gonna load lead just curious as to what grain will give me the most accurate and best reformance?

X2. A nice H&G 68 is the most accurate bullet out there for the 1911. Most out of the box .45's will feed them just fine.

all i could get local was 230 grain lead RN they had copper plated but i like lead cheaper. o well i'll see how they work out. thanks for your replys

just remember you don't NEED jacketeds for 45 auto velocities, unless you use them to "clean out" the barrel- almost everybody i know uses the 200 grain lswc- mine doesn't even like the 185's but can eat the 200/230s all day

Wheat. My wife likes the recoil reduction that she gets with corn,
Just stay away from the rice unless you're going to clean right after shooting.

I use 200gr cast with Win 231.
And 200gr XTP with Unique.
Both to a good effect. (accuracy)
I think If your looking for accuracy and on target effectiveness 200gr is a good medium. Speed to expand and bearing surface to get accuracy.

Incedentally John Browning designed the .45 for 200gr bullets but the US army wanted something approximating the 255gr bullet of the .45colt after the failure of their .38 S+W revolvers in the Phillipines. What the heck they were doing there in the first place is a whole other question.

230gr Hornady XTP JHP for when I'm feeling fancy.

With both, I use around 4.7gr of 700X, I found that 4.5 or less doesn't always completely cycle the action, but 4.7 has been serving me well.

I have a 345 ruger, and it wont feed with swc cast bullets or copper plated. You could try filing the ramp but I just buy 230 fmj for smoother cycling. Nothing more frustrating than racking the slide and clearing a jam 6 times in an 8 rd mag. Anything round nose seems cycle ok. In hind sight I should have bought a 1911.

"...what grain will give me..." Depends on the pistol and the load. You have to work up the load for your pistol.
SWC's tend to give grief in pistols that are not set up to feed 'em. Not really a big deal. You just chamfer the feed ramp about half way up the chamber. Just a wee bit of chamfer with a jeweller's file.
Cast 230 RN's or FP's with Bullseye work well out of my Colt.
