What Ground Blind would you suggest?

I've decided to purchase a ground blind for next years hunting season. What are you guys using and what would you suggest?

A little back ground: I've been in the Ameristep G 30 (G-3?), it seemed great, but seems to get bad reviews. I had whitetail walk right up to it with me in it.

I also used a buddies this year. Unfortunately it was lifted by a less than honest @sshat of an outfitter in the area (along with a set of shooting sticks and his chair):mad::mad:. It was a Primo, not sure of the model. I wasn't big on the access though; It was zippered and opened the full height of the blind. I preferred the door set up on the Ameristep, and hublock is a must.

All opinions appreciated.

The best camouflage is local camouflage. Posts or poles, neutral coloured strings, a section of old army camouflage net, some tree wrapping burlap, etc. Or, make a little straw bale fort with a chair, coffee cup holder and space to change out of one outer layer.

Bring a small folding saw and make your own natural blinds, make many of them and still hunt from blind to blind, just an idea.
X2!!

X3!!

1m x 3m strip of burlap,$4.99 at CanTire,applying black sticks w/spray paint optional.;)

Except you are still exposed to the weather. Not much fun sitting in the pouring rain/ wind when it's +1 C.

Use a pop-up, and add additional camo from surrounding area. Make sure you get a BIG one...the little "outhouse" style seems a little confining.

Add a lawn chair, bi-pod, a warm blanket...and you're good to go. :)

Yep,I'm pretty sure that's just how Daniel Boone and Davy Crocket used ta do it.

One advantage of the Ameristep outhouse is that it doesnt collapse under a snowload like the doghouse style blinds. Your limited pretty much to one person in the blind but the snow / rain slides down it and doesnt collect on the roof. After seeing mine, a bunch of my coworkers bought one and we all like them.

And I can stand up in it.

And if you live close to the border, they reguarly go on sale for $39 and super sale at least once a year for $29. At that price you can own a couple.

I have the Doghouse and like it, but when you put that on your back, add on a folding chair, and a bag over you shoulder with snacks and a themous it adds up. It would be good if you can set it up and leave it there, but some places you probably would come back to it missing. I want to get the chair blind and try that out. I like natural blinds, but in poor weather it sure is nice to huddle up in a pop up.

I borrowed fogduckers blind a few years ago, for a bow hunt. I had a doe right in front of me for half an hour. (No tag) I figured she was a live decoy. Every time she wandered away, I gave a turn of the can call, and she came back. She was twenty feet from me several times.
I didn't use the heater, I don't like the noise, but you might get away with that to some degree on a rifle hunt where you can shoot farther. Me, I'd still not use it, I just grin, and freeze.

Mr buck didn't show however.

Let me guess...you wear a coon skin hat, fringed leather pants, moccasins, and ride a horse to get to your "natural" ground blind.
No,but I use a Hawken rifle(or bow),dress for the elements, and hunt in any and all weather conditions. If I want to be comfy and warm snuggled up with a blanky,I'll sit back in my Lazy-Boy in my underwear and play Big Game Hunter on the kid's Wii.:p

I'm using one that was on sale at Bass Pro, I think it's called a Ground Max. It's a hub-style blind...much nicer and faster than the Outhouse blinds with the folding hoop frames, IMHO. I'm very satisfied with it.

I tried the chair/blind combination as well. It's fast and light, and okay for a short sit of a couple of hours, but every motion in the seat is transferred to the blind itself...the whole thing shakes like a leaf if you move.

Grnrgrn, we're all impressed with what a tough outdoorsman you are. Some of us even use muzzleloaders or bows on occasion, just to be like you. Boone and Crockett used the best technology available to them at the time...if they were here today, they'd shake their heads and laugh at you for a fool.:stirthepot2:

Maybe B&C would laff their buckskin a$$es off at you for wasting your money on BS Scentlok gimics rather than using skill and woodsmanship to take game?Really,it's a miracle how humans ever survived before Goretex.I suppose modern day pop-up blinds surely must come in handy for keeping your Crackberry dry while you text back and forth with your buddy and share your infinite wisdom and hunting know how on i-net forums from the field.Enjoy your tent.
