What group size is a good day for you 100M offhand?

We have a neat little game to closely emulate the stress of a hunting shot. Have a 20 foot circle and run around it as fast as you can 5-10 times age and shape dependent. End at the bench, pick up gun and you have 5 seconds to shoot. Do this 3 times over the course of 15 minutes and keep all your shots in a 4" circle at 100 and it separates the shooters from the "gun hits fine on the bench" crowd

Whit a lightweight 30-30 open sight give or take 3 inch at 100v
Whit my sub moa bolt action whit a scope i do under 5inch Maybe weight is a factor for me off bench

Much depends on the trigger and the sights/optics, and how familiar I am with the rifle. I've really impressed myself, and really embarrassed myself, too. :)

The way I shoot at 50 metres offhand I wouldn't dream of real world offhand shooting 100 at metres.

I always seek a rest if at all possible.

Shot a deer at 40 yards on the 10th and I sat down and rested my knees on my elbows to shoot.

Not saying I haven't done it. I've shot two moose offhand at 50 to 80 metres when there was no time and no other option, but they have a big kill zone.

Not being critical. If you guys can do it; have at 'er.

Boy, ain't that the truth for the vast majority of us. I usually embarrass myself when there are several other shooters around, quite often the reverse is true when a real decent group pops up on the paper.

I believe brobee had Hunter shooting challenge. Which timed a string of fire in different shooting positions with possible reloading required. 10" circle I think, not sure the distance? It seemed like a very reasonable challenge to tell the kind of marksman you could be? "The hunter Marksman challenge" or shooting challenge I can not remember. Never got around to giving it a try but now that hunting season is here I will have to.

I don't shoot "groups" off-hand. That is why the good Lord made rocks and gravel pits. ;) If I can hit a head-sized rock at any given distance then I am happy.

I play with my 22 and 17 offhand at 100,normally I am somewhere around a 4-6" group for 10 shots. Occasionally I shoot an awesome group, sometimes not so great. A 6" gong at 200 yards is usually a 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 4 shots for me. Unless I just had an XL double double... Then the berm is in trouble!!

I'm quite happy shooting 3-4" groups at 100 yards free hand.
Shooting at paper targets and shooting at game are very hard to compare.
On paper, the harder I try, the worse I get!! When hunting, instinct kicks in and everything just happens.

20160923_131332.jpgmy 10 shot target today. It's typical of my shooting although I have got them all in the black quite a few times

Those inconsistent ones out in the white sure irk me. Had a 3 5/8" 4 rnd group today. 3 other groups 5-7", 2 other groups were bigger. My '06 mag holds 4 so that's what I shoot. The 375 I use 5 rnd groups, lower odds, but if it's easy it doesn't make you better.
