I am planning an Alaska moose hunt in 2 years . What gun/ calibur should I get? Any suggestions and why. I have shot lots of ( Ontario)moose and they go down easy, But when in Alaska moose country you are also in big bear territory! I wouldn't want to go under gunned.

Whatever you use on Canada moose will work fine on Alaska moose. Your guide usually packs a bear smasher if they are a problem in the area. Or ask your outfitter what he suggests. Whatever you choose, have a great experience and enjoy the hunt

At any Rate I'd look at something like the 338 Winchester ! Definately a Good Alaskan Cartridge

338 Win Mag... I think in a stainless Model 70, with a low power variable Leupold scope.
Not sure if you can get a stainless rifle with irons these days, but I'd get that if I could. That way if anything goes wrong with your scope (dropped and broken type thing) you could fall back on the irons. Moreover, I'd buy and carry a Williams FP for the rifle. If you had to re-zero anyways, why not have the benefit of the Williams?
And I think I'd want a laminated stock. (Just don't like most sythetics myself.)

On topic, if I were taking an oddball calibre, I'd make sure to pack my ammo in 2 or 3 different pieces of luggage, or even ship some ahead just in case. You're sure not finding that stuff at the local sporting goods store!

I fished in Alaska and Yukon this summer. Of course I couldn't resist talking hunting with the locals and found out that the most popular caliber with them is a 30-06. My buddy and I will be hunting the Yukon in 2007 and we both own 30-06 and .338's - the .338's will be making the trip.

I would go with my .338/378 Wby, but that's just my opinion
