what gun for coyotes?

.223 is probably the least expensive centerfire to shoot, but i think you will have problems minimizing pelt damage with it. try hitting them from longer ranges -- in my experience at closer ranges it doesnt matter what you hit them with out of a .223: under 100-125 yards youll do a lot of damage, even with FMJ.

up to 100-125 yards a plain old .22 is your best bet.

the Savage 24F combo gun isnt a bad idea, just beware that they are a heavy and somewhat awkward gun and can have extraction problems with centerfire. but if you are getting only one gun, then it would make a really nice utility gun. the hinge action itself is very durable and foolproof - only the extractors on them are a weak point.
