I voted 270 because you currently have a 308 machine gun which must suck packing for hunting. A 270 will do it all nicely

Move.

Then buy a 270 and save the M14 for BHD fantasies. The 243, while versatile, is marginal and therefore a specialist's rifle for deer. Certainly for the deer you'll encounter when you move West. :D

Right now for the purpose of hunting i have a ruger 10/22 for the real small stuff, a shot gun with various chokes, and a m14 (.308) for really large game. So
im thinking i need a gun smaller then a .308 for mid size game like coyotes and maybe some deer. My question is if you had the exact same guns and had to choose between a gun chambered in .243 or .270 which would you choose and why?

have you ever thought of a 3030 they are very good for what you want

the 270 has many more uses it can be loaded to take down a moose it will take deer very well and is fast and flat enough to make a very effective coyote gun

I'd use the .308 for deer and buy a 22/250 for coyotes.

.

I hate 243s and for no good resaon.

The hated .243 Win. whips the .22-250 with 55s and will shoot heavier stuff than most factory 250s, for the odd deer or what have you. But it is hard to argue with your 'logic'....:p:D

I wouldn't be dragging a ~10 pound .308 around for hunting either, personally.....

I shoot 270 shot a lot of different rounds very impressed with this caliber kills everything dead.If you plan on shooting more than just deer go for the 270.killed deer, moose, elk.

I would suggest a 7mm-08 because it's a short action and everyone knows a short action is just plain better. And it's waaaaay better then a .243, now you just have to find one. I wonder where a guy could find one of those. Wait, what's down there?......

I have thought about this for years. Trying to keep just a few guns. If you already have a deer/moose gun then possibly the .243. I own a .243 Rem VLS varmint. It is a great gun and fine for varmints but personally I think it is a little small for deer even with a good bullet. If every shot could be perfect maybe I would change my mind. I live in southern Ont. and I also shoot a .270 with 90gr and 100gr reloads. You could always use this gun for any other game in Ont.

Well, your trying to bridge the gap between your .22 and .308, so I voted .243.

The .270 is practically the same class as your .308, same basic uses (most NA big game). Whereas the .243 bridges the gap as an excellent varmint cartridge capable of handling deer size game as well(or bigger if you're careful, not that I'd recommend it). .243 all the way.

.243..then you will still have a reason to buy another .30 caliber as your .308 is too heavy for big game hunting. Always leave yourself a good reason to add to the collection.

You know if you had a song play with that shameless, cheasy flashing ad of yours, maybe you could sell that darn 7mm08 quicker! ;):D
