I have a completely different take on this, and I am in Southwestern Ontario as well:
Dump the .308, sell it.
Buy a .270 and a .22-250
You will have two excellent calibers that you can enjoy year round right in your backyard, no caliber restriction issues and you can hunt everything from Jack Rabbits to Moose.

I had to make that decision a long time ago and chose the 270.

I voted for a .243 but either is a good round.....I'd personally get a single shot "Handy rifle"....cheap gun, can shoot with irons or a scope, you won't blow ammo as fast with it and it will help you to become a better shot when you only have 1 bullet at a time.
