What gun to get next??

So I have a huge dilemma going on right now. I have about 1000 bucks to spend but value is important so the cheaper the better, and don't know what kind of gun to get next.

I have a Marlin lever action 45/70, a Savage 10FP .308 and an Ithaca M37 12 Gauge 20 inch barrel. Right now Im just a paper puncher but I'm planning on getting my hunting license this fall so I'll throw that into the equation too.

My question for you guys is what should I be looking at to pick up next? I've been looking at everything from an SKS (just because its cheap to feed) To a 375 H7H or 375 Ruger since my father lives in BC and a bear hunt maybe in my future. Maybe a bolt 223 for paper punching and small game hunting? Just would love to hear some opinions.
 
Honestly I'd put that money into my reloading (brass, bullets, powder etc) and practice up with what I already own. Owning vs doing sort of thing. I think too many guys get hung up about owning tons of rifles (nothing wrong with that at all!) but they don't get around to shooting them as much as they could.

Can't have too many rifles but you can't have too much ammo and practice either.
 
I think a person should have a varmint / target rifle of some sort... it will probaby end up being the rifle that you put the most rounds through. A .223 would be hard to beat for "fun" shooting.

I totally agree, I'm am already set up to reload both my rifles.
 
Everyone NEEDS a good .22LR. I have a moderate collection of firearms to suit any hunting in N. America and most in Africa, but nothing sees more rounds than my .22's.

Then you need something around the .22 centrefire class, and something in the 6mm to .27 class, .30 cal, .338 cal, .375 and .44 cal classes. And maybe a few other oddballs too- .35 Whelan?
 
I think Seabass gave you the best advice regarding owning versus doing stuff. Although for all I know your at the range shooting 7 days a week.

Everyone else gave you the best advice. You need a 223.
 
I do like the idea of having a 223, super cheap to feed and you can hunt with it year round in Southern Bantario. I may have to look at some autoloaders (non-res), maybe a mini-14.
 
Another vote for 22 rimfire. Really cheap to feed and you can plink away with it at the range while the barrels on your centerfires cool between groups. Aside from that a 12ga combo gun would be a good choice (28" or 26" smoothbore barrel with choke tubes and a fully rifled slug barrel) . You could go for waterfowl, deer, turkey, small game and some clays as well. Keep in mind that much of southern Ontario is shotgun/muzzle-loader/archery only for deer. You might be able to use your Ithica for deer, but it would be less than ideal for turkey or waterfowl.
