What Guns are you using for Bear Hunting this Year?

Depends on where I decide to go more than anything. Most likely a .30-06 shooting 180's. If exclusively hunting from stands with no open fields or watering holes to cover, maybe 220's.

if on a stand likely a BRNO o/u in 8x57R with 225 gr
- open cutlines - hmmm probably my 300 weatherby with 180 Accubonds

Winchester 1300 with foster slugs. :shotgun:

Or, if I come into some cash for a rifle, either a .30-30 (probably a Marlin lever or maybe a Savage 340) or an SKS.

I often carry a single-shot H&R 12 gauge when running bait, since it's easy to pack on my motorcycle. However, one of the singles is currently having difficulty extracting, and the other one is having problems with light pin strikes. So, neither of those is particularly confidence-inspiring.

the only thing I know about Bear hunting is
you do not need to out run the bear just the person you are with
and if you trip them it is easier to out run them

Trying to decide whether to take my 1894 38-55 or my Savage 99c 308. The Winnie is pretty damn accurate with that bejisus long barrel but then the 308 has a scope too. The Ruger 77mk II 30-06 gets heavy after a while.

This year for sure my 350 Super Mashburn, even if it is over Kill, I have yet to shoot a bear with it. Also my 375 Epstine, and 338 wm are always top picks, yes over kill, but if your going to make a hole, why not make a big one.

But have use my 270, 30-06 and 300 wms for them in the past.

I'm not thinking your rifles are overkill one of my rifles that I am going to hunt with is a Rem 700 LSS in 375RUM loaded with 260gr Accubonds @ 3020fps & 350gr TSX @ 2450fps...

Scope is a Leupold 2-7X Compact I will switch it to a VX 11 1-4X once I have my loads worked up a bit more...

OAL = 29" :D

Hopefully with 500 grain lead( 1.14 ounces!!) pill propelled from a newly aquired 50/70 government rolling block rifle. That is going to leave an ouchie.

my PSE NOVA bow or my REM 7600 in 30-06 depends on how the bears co-operate.Camp Cook i did not think it was legal to use a gun with a barrel less than 18 inches.barrels under 18 inches fall under restricted weapons i think.

Not true... this does not apply to manually operated actions it is a common misunderstanding that this applies to all firearms but it only applies to semi-auto's and it's 18.5" barrels not 18".

In the case of my 45 Colt Contender carbine the barrel is longer than 12" and the overall length is 29" so it is still 2 1/2" longer than legal.

Think of a 16" Win 94 Trapper in 45 Colt or 30-30 they have 16" barrels there is a single shot 410 that has a 12" barrel, Dlask has a Rem 870 8.5" barreled 12 gauge with the butt stock on it is legal to carry anywhere you can legally take a firearm you can't use it for hunting because the barrel is shorter than 12" but you can use it for defense.
