What Hand Gun does OPP use?

Im curious to know what handgun the OPP use?

If the OPP use an expensive handgun, then what other cheaper, SIMILAR options are a good match to train with.

Most likely a Municipal LEO of some kind you spotted. All OPP carry Sigs, although apparently they are considering switching to Glock 17/19. Municipal officers carry a variety depending on service, Glock 22s being common along with M&Ps.

Sig 229, DAO, some of the dog handlers have sig X5 in 9mm. I've never seen a uniformed OPP officer carry a glock. UC guys I've seen all kinds of stuff

come to think of it...it probably was municipal.
 
Many agencies are moving away from 40SW to 9mm.

Cost, round capacity, recoil management, and longer parts sustainability in the same frame being the primary reasons. 40SW just doesn't have the advantages that are obtained with 9mm.... and I like 40SW.

Cost of ammunition and availability of ammunition is actually the biggest driving factor. One agency in particular apparently will save $400,000 in ammo cost a year by switching to 9mm from 40SW. Plus 9mm is easier to source on large scale order than 40, plus ha's a larger market variety in terms of ballistic performance than 40.

40 is a dying breed.

Cost I could see being a factor. Availability doesn't make sense though. Its not like they are going into the LGS to buy their ammo...

Also, $400 000 in ammo costs a year? They would need to be putting what, 1.5-2 million shots down range yearly for that kind of savings? I thought cops didn't get much practice time at the range though? lol

The agency has over 2000 officers. That equates to around a 1000 rounds a year per officer. The cost savings is accurate. Some officers shoot less than 100 rounds a year. Others, well let's just say they make up the difference. Just like some go to the gym, and others don't know where to find it.

Sourcing large amounts of 40SW is not as easy as you'd think of larger agencies. Most manufactures put effort into 9mm, hence why ballistics and performance in 9mm have advanced to meet 40SW performance and 40sw performance has not advanced as much.
