What Handgun and Why?

With the upcoming changes in handgun laws, just curious, how many (new and used) handguns did you buy, what were they and why? As for me.....

Bought 4 new handguns:

- Glock 17 (9 mm) - Just love this handgun. I already own one that has a modified frame, but I wanted to return to the stock frame. So....easier just to buy brand new.

- Glock 34 MOS (9mm) - It was my very first handgun. I had sold it off.....but wanted this long slide version of the 17 back again.

- Glock 44 (22 cal) - When they first came out they didn't look too reliable.....but it looks like Glock has figured it out somewhat, so people are reporting better results with it with the right ammo. Looks like they also "break-in" somewhat. Plus it looks fun....and as you can tell, I'm a Glock fanboy!

- Heritage Rough Rider (22 cal revolver) - Very very affordable and just looks like a nice plinker!

I never would have bought these without the changes in laws. No way.

Can't wait for them to clear.....

I bought 12 so far.
- Canik Rival - Heard good things about it, bought it for IPSC.
- P320 x5 legion - Great gun for competition and very modular
- Colt Python - Gotta have one in the collection
- Norinco 22lr pistol - Cheap and fun
- SW617 - Don't want my Python to feel lonely in the safe...
- Springfield 1911 - A collection is not complete without a 1911...
- HK45 - Classic HK I like it over the USP since its got the picatinny rail for accessories and its got LEM trigger.
- Walther PDP - New kid on the block, everyone seem to say good things about it.
- P80 frame - Not exactly a pistol but just in case I want a custom gucci glock in the future...
- Glock 19x - Love it
- Norinco 1911 in 9mm - Need one in 9mm
- Beretta 92s - Very good condition got it for a good deal.

I went with guns that would be different for me, to fill the void, or special.

As soon as it was announced I purchased a Sig Sauer STX .45 1911 (on sale!) because I did not have any .45 ACP caliber handguns.

Then a Norinco TT Olympia because it was cheap ($200) with good reviews and I did not have a 22lr handgun

After that a Browning Medalist (22lr) simply because I wanted a special gun that looked really nice. It was an impulse buy, I knew it wouldn't stay long on the shelf.

Today I purchased a Bersa Thunder 380 because I did not have any handguns in .380 ACP and I always wanted a Walther PPK because of James Bond, and that's the closest I could to in Canada.

I'm looking for one last one, a classic, but I'm stretching my finances already. I'll tell you if I ever buy it. Chances are I will bite the bullet and pull the trigger. I'll update when I do.

So far, have sold 5 & bought one.

Just repositioning needs/wants. ;)

And, at this point, not 100% sure I'm done either selling or buying..... :p

----------
NAA.

I bought the ones that I wanted in the future. The government just pushed me to do it sooner. I registered them all in my daughters' names... Bersa Thunder 380 and 22, S&W 617 and M&P 10 and a CZ P09 and Kadet kit. I started by purchasing an inexpensive Girsan MC28 for my youngest daughter. It sort of snowballed after that... I'm not sure if I'm done yet but time is running out.

I’ll try to remember all of em but so far

Full guns:
Smith and Wesson M&P 40
GsG 1911 .22 cal (pink)
Norinco type 54, 2 of em actually
Enfield no2 revolver in 38 s&w
Norinco np28 double stack 1911 in 9mm
Bersa thunder in 380acp
2 ruger wrangler SAA in 22lr (waiting on approval

Frames only:(all but one awaiting approval
Polymer 80 full size glock copy
.22lr Luger copy
Norinco m93 sportsman
Norinco 1911 single stack frame
Xtreme guns stainless steel 1911

That’s it so far, I’m still holding out hope for a cheap 357 long barrel revolver and a 1851 colt navy copy but funds are pretty much completely depleted

I only started buying handguns on the third of June after the announcement was made, it’s not that I didn’t want any or wasn’t interested, I planned on having a huge collection of various types and calibers just before the announcement something always came up that needed money more than guns, I bought the guns listed above for two main reasons
1: I wanted a variety of actions and calibres
2: they were cheap( relatively speaking anyway)

Obviously I hope nothing changes and I can keep buying handguns until I die but I think I’ll be happy getting one more revolver fingers crossed

Springfield Milspec: I didn't have a government sized 1911 in .45 ACP
Glock 48: spare: 2 is 1. Clay had some.
Browning Hi Power Mk 3: it was LNIB and better than my surplus ones.
Colt Python 4.25": I missed out on MR-73 and Clay had some.
2x Taylor's Cattlemen in 357 magnum/4.75" barrels: in case I take up CAS. Clay had some.

Not a purchase but a rush import: Browning Hi Power customized by The Action Works. I was lucky this came in before August.

I purchased 5 so far since June.

Sig P226 Legion DA/Sa 9mm - My favourite handgun. But wanted an MK25 but none were available
Sig P226 Classic 22LR - wanted a P226 22 LR and it was something different then my GSG 1911
Beretta 92A1 - Always been a favourite of mine. Wanted to have the real thing instead of my Taurus PT92 clone
Glock 22 Gen 5 Mos - Have always wanted to buy a Glock and I didn’t have any 40 S&W. Bought this and a Holosun Green Dot Reflex Sight
Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 9mm - Been on my want list for a long time. Love these guns and found one a few weeks ago. So I purchased it while I still could.

colt national gold cup, tokarev tt-33, walter ppq m2 22 lr,ruger mark 3 hunter 22lr,ruger gp100 22lr , sig sauer p320 xfive legion 9 mm,sig sauer p226 navy mk25 9mm, beretta 92 fs 9mm

Got them after June : S&W mp2.0, Heritage rough rider .22LR, Beretta 92FS, Girsan Hi power clone, Sig P226 MK25

Glock 19x -Wanted to get one but hadn't.

Sig P320 - Wanted to get one for modularity.
SW 629 Deluxe - Needed a 44 Magnum
Dan Wesson 1911 - Needed a 1911

Glock 48 - FOMO'd on this one
Glock 17 Gen 4 MOS - This is a backup for my gen 4 parts and a MOS Slide
Beretta 92x RDO - Thought I should get a 92 classic. Only one I could find.
Sig P320 Legion - Decided to try this and keep the other as a backup
Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS - I didn't love my old MOS but the new Holosun SCS optic has me intrigued.

Colt Diamondback - Could not believe I found a mint 70s diamondback in 22.

Think I went overboard but, rather have one too many than regret not having down the road. Most 9mm are new most others are used.

2 Glock 19x 9mm, never fired a glock and wanted one. Decided to get the second instead of buying extra mags, spare parts...
1 Glock 48 9mm, fear of missing out, wanted a smaller frame Glock
1 CZ 75 Shadowline 9mm, wanted another CZ to go with my SP-01 shadow which is one of my favourites
2 walther PPK 32 ACP, alway’s wanted one and price of second one made sense for the extra mags, parts
1 Berreta 70 32ACP, price was right, other compact pistol to go with PPK’s
1 Walther PDP 9mm, Good reviews and did not have a striker fired 9mm
1 Canik Rival Dark side 9mm. Loved the look of it, good reviews, second striker fired option
1 CZ p09 cadet 22Lr. Wanted another 22 Lr, limited selection at time of purchase
1 S&W 28-2 357 Mag needed a first centre fire revolver
1 S&W 19 357 mag price was right, smaller frame than 28, wasn’t sure which one would prefer
1 S&W 15 38 special excellent condition, could not pass, I’m a sucker for old firearms that are near mint.
1 S&W 18-3 22 LR. Nice to have a 22 same frame size as the 15 & 19
1 S&W 36 38 special 2” Barrel, Figured a small frame would round up the collection
1 S&W 36 38 special 3” Barrel, price was right, again I’m a sucker for old firearms that are near mint.

Have only received a few of these, rest waiting for transfer approvals...

I started this thread to understand was I nuts for buying all these beautiful handguns. Somewhat to my surprise, I find myself to be in a minority with only 4 bought.

My limiting factor was definately my wife, not the money. More than 4 would definately get me in big trouble.

Really cool to see what everyone has purchased.....and more interestingly the why.

P226 Legion SAO - Always loved and wanted a P226. Probably my favorite pistol of all time.
Springfield TRP Operator .45ACP - Love the 1911's, gotta have 1 in the collection, and found this gem brand new.
Walther PDP Full Size - Wanted a pistol that was optics ready, and it comes with a great trigger.
Glock 44 - Something to teach my son how to shoot when he's ready. Also great to teach new shooters with.
Glock 19 - Fomo'ed into this one...
Glock 19x - The Glock I actually wanted, didn't think it was going to happen, but glad it did.

Wow, love it...

Decided to get my restricted licence last summer in anticipation of just getting back into shooting and always wanted to try out a handgun. Finally got the licence in January and was looking for simple single action .22 revolver that shot cheap ammo so I could learn all the ins and outs.

My thought is I would move up to a semi auto .22 then move up to a 9mm over the next year or 2. Soooo here is the list and why

Guns ordered and received
1. Chiappa 1873 .22 revolver with extra .22 mag cylinder. - reviews were acceptable and it was cheap
2. Heritage Rough Rider .22 also with extra cylinder - watched youtube vids that showed it to be a better gun than the Chiappa and close to the same price, and figured I may sell the Chiappa. (have since decided to keep the Chiappa as it is a great gun)
3. GSG 1911 .22 semi auto - bought this the day of Uvalde in anticipation of possible rule tightening (should have listened to my spidey senses of liberal gun control, and bought my planned group then)

Guns ordered but not received

4. Glock 17 gen 5 - bought the panic night of May 30 after the announcement. Bought it on recommendation from LEO acquaintance as a safe reliable gun. This gun along with the GSG was purchased 1 year early from my original plan
5. Norinco Olympia semi auto .22 - it was cheap (30% off at $199) with decent reviews. Still some available at Marstar.
6. Ruger Wrangler revolver .22. Just to round out the .22 cowboy gun collection. Also it was in the review group when i bought gun 1 but was a bit more expensive. Has transfer bar safety also.
7. Glock 44 - was actually thinking of wanting a Glock 19 but by the time I was seriously looking they were all gone so went with the same size gun that shot cheaper ammo.
