Hi Guys and gals

I just recieved my restricted PAL and now I need to buy some handguns.
I don't know to much about handguns yet so I'm asking for some help.
I would like to get a 22 of some sort. What would be a good starter that won't break the bank? Used is OK. I'm thinking of spending up to $300.00 on a .22. I don't know if I want a semi auto or revolver. (pro's or cons of each would be nice)

Now I would also like to get something a little bigger as well. What do you guys suggest for a begginer? Trying to stay under $500.00 on this one.

Thanks for all your help

The first one is relatively easy (it's in about every other thread around here)... Ruger or Buckmark... you choose... can't go wrong.
I say auto, only because a good quality revolver will set ya back a bit more, and most guys get bored pretty quick of the wheelguns.
As for a bigger calibre... well... let the debate begin.
Most 1st time buyers like CZ, Glock, Browning, Colt, Springfield, Ruger (not so much, though they win in the price catagory)... you get the hint.
Your best bet is to meet up with two or three guys who can bring a variety of choices to the range and let you try them. Nothing beats first hand experience.
For the record, my firsts were a Browning Buckmark Camper and a CZ (pre-B).
Both of which I still own.
Good luck!!

Personnely, For a first gun I bough a Ruger MArk II bull barrel. At 300, it's shoot all I feed in it. Simple, accurate, easy to shoot well. Can't go wrong with this.

I started with a P22 then moved on to a Buckmark Target 5.5, and a S&W M41.

The P22 is nice little plinker to learn on, the BM and the M41 are much more accurate and reliable semi's. Don't own a Ruger, but they have a large following too.

Handle as many .22's as you can, go with the one that fit your mitt best.

Learn to shot with a .22, it lots of fun and it's cheap. Move on to larger stuff once you've gained some gun control experience.

thanks guys, I have found a ruger mark I for $225.00 is this a good deal?
In the larger calibre hand guns I would like to find something that takes cheaper ammo as I don't reload yet.

Nice find as far as the .22 goes. I prefer the Smith & Wsson .22's but that's me. As far as larger caliber stay with 9mm. Cheapest of them all. But nothing close to as cheap as .22's.
There are sooooo many 9mm options that you really have to go to a gunshop and hold them to see which one fits you best. If you want to go new and stay in the cheap dollar range. Check out the Norinco NP-29 or NP-22. Its the copy of the Colt 1911 and Sig P226 both in 9mm and new will run you under 400$ I own both of them along with brand name 9mm's such as Browning HI-Power and I love them just the same. Great guns for the money.
Have fun. :)
