Hoping someone here will enlighten me with what they think has gone wrong here.
It was once fired brass, 72gr of H4831SC pushing a 165gr Game King.
It left a small pit in the face of the bolt as well.

Primer blowout..

By chance are you using Federal brass? A buddy of mine started blowing primers and it was all Federal brass. From what I have read they have soft primer pockets and the internal dimensions are somewhat different then many of the other brands of brass. The difference with the Federal increases cumbustion pressures and can cause blown primers among other problems. I only re-use my federal brass 1 or 2 times then I scrap it for these very reasons.
As far as I know blown primers are a sign of exteremly high pressure or soft primer pockets

I was suspecting the brass as the primers went in easier then they did on the Winchester brass. Its a Winchester Magnum primer, I've had no other problems with these primers on other loads. The same load had no problems in Winchester brass.

This is a primer failure. The cup has a thin section in it, and when subjected to high pressure it ruptures right on the radius of the primer.

Over the years, I have had this happen with practically every brand of primer I have used. Not a frequent occurrence, but a bit annoying when it flamecuts the boltface.

Regards, Dave.

Check your bolt face for hot gas cutting damages. I suggest you contact Winchester because it seems to be a common defect for Win primers since some time and they will act accordingly to replace them.

BTW, I used a lot of Winchester primers and stopped using them since it happened to me too.
