DAYYYYUUUUUMMMMMM...that's a significant bit of upset metallurgy !!
If this is in fact, one in the same "the sniper story" of the bullet down the bore...that's incredible !!!!!!

I believe this is the one in a British museum. Supposed to have had a direct hit down the muzzle. I have a Gun Digest with the story in it. Fellow wasn’t hurt either. Sniping across the trench’s at each other.

If this is the one, then the bullet would have hit just below the right eye if the rifle wasn't in the way at that split second.
 
My father fought in the french Foreign Legion in Tunisia against Rommel Afrika Korps.
He was shooting with a mousqueton, probably a Berthier and a bullet hit the bolt and exploded.
He had tiny pieces of lead imbedded around the right eye brow and the right index finger.
There still were little grey protrusions under the skin of the finger.
Very lucky indeed.
