What happened the semi prices?

I've been out of the gun game for a while.

I bought my browning silver in 3.5" 12gauge synthetic for I think $800 on sale in 2011-2012... looking now all the semis have gone up $300-$400 in price.

I haven't seen an increase like this in other types of firearms? What gives?

Have a look at the prices on the Browning O/U guns, if you think that their semi autos have gone up a lot.

2011/2012 the dollar was near par with the US buck.

Today it's worth 75 cents US on a good day plus Browning upped their prices by a few point like everyone else in the past couple of years.

The math works - not fair maybe, but simple explanation...

And if you look real hard an Axis now lists for about 600 bucks, was a 400 dollar rifle (not on sale) a couple years back...

Semi shotguns are definitely a big rip off. For instance the M2 or Versa Max. When you pull these guns apart you have to notice how little complication there is in them, and how imprecise they are, compared to semiauto rifles and pistols.

I agree the prices have gone up on all firearms. I purchased a Beretta a300 uplander for I think 7 bigs ones taxes in a couple years ago. I'm pretty sure there up to around a thousand + taxes now.

What was the exchange rate on the American Dollar back when you bought your Browning Silver?

I bought an Instinct SL for $1179 from Lebarons in 2013. Those guns are now about $2100....almost doubled

Ya, no kidding. Its a great gun when priced at $1179. But at $2100 plus tax, there are much better options available. Especially in the used market

I bought a Weatherby SA-08 20 gauge in August 2013 from a well known Ontario dealer for $536.85. That same gun at the same dealer now is $867.35, an increase of about 62%. I think there is more at work than just the Canadian dollar.My ability to buy that gun hasn't gone up by 62% in that time frame.

All other explanations are just indicator the authors of those posts do not know how foreign exchange (the value of our dollar against in particular the US dollar) impacts the price we pay for products not made in Canada.

Not just products not made in Canada, but even products that are made in Canada. In firearm terms, you dont have to look any further then Savage rimfires. These are guns made in Lakefield, Ontario. In some cases, some of these rimfires have nearly doubled in price as well in the last 4-5 years
