What happened to all the Kel-Tec SU-16 rifles out there?

Hi everyone,

Where did all the Keltec SU16 rifles go?

I think I've owned three over the years, and enjoyed them all. But having a limited budget I ended up selling them for one reason or another, to pay bills etc., but usually when another gun I was interested in came along and I needed the cash.

I've posted a number of WTB ads over the last few months, but even before the OIC I just haven't seen many on the EE. I see the odd tactical model with a price tag that is more than I remember them being new when they were in stock at the dealers, (and I would assume if anything those are the models people longing for their since-banned ARs would covet), but where are the original folding ones or the predator models?

I seem to recall the factory has a hard time keeping up with demand on all models which would limit availability (and effect the used market prices), and I remember hearing a rumour that the SU-16 was being replaced by one of their newer bullpups, but what happened to all the ones on the EE? Are people just holding on to them now that our options are more limited? Have all the haters since been converted?

I remember a predator model being on the EE for weeks and weeks last winter, and the price got so low I couldn't believe it still hadn't sold. Maybe I'm just reminiscing for a bygone era that is never to return, but I am genuinely curious to hear CGN's thoughts on where they are hiding. The ban didn't seem to limit the availability of other NR STANAG-pattern guns, if anything I see more Modern Sporters now than ever before. Same with the X95.

Anyway, interested in your thoughts. Thanks for looking!

Since the oic anythuing semi has been coveted and hoarded.
A lot of people have also stopped talking about what they even own.

Stateside, the double threat of democrats gaining any office and the armed thugs of antifa and such have driven sales through the roof.

They still come in from time to time.
If you see one at a price you like, buy it.

I sold mine to fund other rifles, but luckily I got one of them back. She’s in a little rougher shape but I’m happy to have it back. I did like the predator model I had, would probably buy one of those if I came across one for the right money.

The OIC cast a pall over black rifle section of the EE, some days there are only a handful of new postings where there used to be dozens, and is it just me or has the entire EE been slower since as well?

Honestly, I think a lot of people are holding on to their NR semis. They have seen (once again) that registration leads to confiscation. Only this time they've had enough. The way things are going, if they sell it, they may never get the chance to own one again and if they do get the chance prices are increasing so rapidly that they may not be able to afford to get another one.

This doesn't only apply to the rifle you are looking for. It applies to all of them. They are out there but the number of people willing to let go is dropping steadily.

Hopefully you find what you're looking for. And when you do, grab it. Even if it's a few dollars more than you want it to be.

Kel-Tec, or atleast its Canadian importer sometimes falls behind on the demand and takes what seems like most of a year to catch up.

I haven't tried the RFB, but am acquainted with a number of different 5.56 bullpup models.

I passed up a great price on a SU-16 tactical this week as I'm really after the original folder for a pack gun.

I like the utility concept of the folders.... but personally could never get passed their flimsy construction. Even their bipod forends were super flimsy. If a lightsaber battle were to occur between a folder and a tactical model, im sure the tactical model would triumph lol

Based on some of the responses (and lack thereof) I'm going to go with the theory that in the face of the OIC, the haters have changed their tune and gobbled them up.

Since starting this thread, I've found two folders for about 30% more than they went for new and three tactical models, one for a great price and two for about 40% more than they cost new.

Maybe I should have bought the reasonably priced tactical model and sold it for an additional $500 on the EE so I could afford a folder.

I'm sure that Keltec could make a really good "Gen-2" of the SU-16, with just a few minor upgrades.

1) Fix the over-travelling bolt problem that causes cracked receivers.
2) Add a bolt release.
3) Make it more easily compatible with aftermarket furniture.

That's about it.

They already did. But they only addressed part 1)
