What has this soldier got?

Latvia also had quite a number of Mark III Ross Rifles, which they termed the "Ross-Enfield".

They also had Vickers Guns, Lewis Guns and Sopwith Camels to put under them.

VERY classy military!
.

I have heard this too, but I have yet to see a picture of any Latvian with a Ross rifle. I have seen the cut down one in the Latvian War Museum, however, that was used in the Partisan war after WW2.

I also have no evidence they had Sopwith Camels. They had a bunch of old British planes, but mostly Gladiators and Bulldogs.

I have examined the carbine and other rifles in the Latvian Muse' in Riga and have several photo's of them. I also researched them in the UK...They are all in .303 Br. including the Patt:14 snipers with the Aldis scopes they also had.

Every time Smellie talks about a Sopwith Camel with an MG on it I always picture a four legged critter being used as a MG mount. Guess I better read up on WWI aircraft! Ha ha!
